Re: How Much For A New Clutch?

If it has a hydraulic clutch that could also be the problem. the master cylinder or slave cylinder might not be fully retracting, not allowing the clutch to fully engage; thus causing the slipping. I've even seen the hose between them degrade internally and acting as a check valve causing this. Agreed, only 27k on a clutch assembly shouldn't be.

Has the service writer offered you a reach around. Make sure the shaft is well lubricated before insertion. It may be a little late for the second part

Just the opposite, it wouldn't fully disengage. In fact that reminds me of a problem I had with an eighty something Nissan pickup 4X4 i had 11 years ago. Was low on fluid and I had a tough time changing gears.

Probably a lot of free play
being it's in the shop and
torn down already.

Agreed and I understand that but what you're describing would be an issue with disengagement. I'm just relaying what I've experienced in the past. If the slave cylinder piston or the master cylinder piston is not fully retracting the clutch might not fully engage causing it to slip.

Which would be a warranty issue.

Re: How Much For A New Clutch?

$1380.

3 beans for parts, the rest is labor. $99/hour. I fully expected this to be a warranty issue with the truck under two years and under 30k miles. Ohterwise, I'd never have gone to the dealer.

Thanks for all the info/input.

Anyway...I think my next vehicle will be a 70 something. I can still work on those.

Re: How Much For A New Clutch?

How much for a clutch? the answer should be "tree fiddy" if contractor talk were to remain consistent.
And you should never attempt a clutch repair yourself, you should take it to the pro's.

sorry, couldn't help myself. that was too easy a setup.

I wouldn't know how to fix a clutch even if I wanted to.

It might be futile and a waste of some time but you might want to try writing an old fashioned letter to the manufacturer. I've done it before (with CAT) and while I never was fully covered, they met me half way, and it was a substantial amout of money. Squeaky Wheel

Re: How Much For A New Clutch?

I say 7-800 dollars. Should have bought a F150. A truck like that really isn't set up to do pulling even with 4 wheel drive.
