Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Ordered the job trailer finally! 5-6 weeks and it's all mine. Can't wait to finally be able to keep all the tools in a trailer instead of loading and unloading the pick up for every job, spending Sunday nights going over lists to make sure I have everything.
I'll be picking the brains of those members who already made the jump. I think I did pretty good on setting it up, the only place that I'm not sure of was the electrical. I finally just decided to have them install a 15 amp breaker panel and a shore power outlet on the outside and 1 GFCI outlet inside and I'm going to run the rest myself. All the packages they offered were too intense for what I need. I only want to be able to run some lights in there, charge a bank of cordless batteries and maybe plug a tool in once in a while. |

Thinking about this myself. What are you doing for security? Will you keep it on site or haul it every day? Post some pictures when you get it.

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Security is a big issue. I plan to park it in front of the customers house for the duration of the job, so anywhere from a couple of days to 3 or 4 weeks.
I ordered it with the extra swing bar lock for the side door and a security bar for the back doors. I ordered same keyed hockey puck locks for it. I'm getting a boot for the wheel and will put together a solar panel trickled powered, marine battery operated alarm system, not sure which one, maybe one of those that will call you or maybe not. That Dewalt jobsite alarm looks like it could do the trick. |

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
You should put your compressor in there too Mike. I love not having to listen to mine all the time. I just drilled a hole in the side and added a T and 2 ends and it works great.

Mike, Here's an idea. Security lighting. Motion or IR detection. All can be had in 12 or 24V. I'd use aircraft landing lights (very bright). Crooks hate light/attention.

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Like the lights idea, only thing is we would have to leave the trailer plugged in, I wouldn't want the lights running the batteries dead and then the alarm system not working.

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Congrats Mike
I have a Carmate trailer I purchased new in '95 and I'm still running it. Consider having the undercarraige undercoated. Cheap upgrade. I also mounted a Knack job box to the tripod tongue area. Great for shovels, wheel chocks, ropes & tiedowns. It also lets you step on top and access the roof!! You'll love having a trailer - nice job !!!!!

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
hey mike,
i'm in the process of selling my older truck and when I do, I plan on getting a trailer by spring/summer. make sure you take lots of pictures of how you setup the inside, i plan on doing just about what you will be doing. more storage, than actually working inside the trailer. i know i want a small work bench in there, with some quad outlets, lights and shelves/cubbies down both sides, and room for the wheelbarrow compressor, generator, and anything else i might need that i currently keep in the shed at home. i'm in a major transition period now trying to use two trucks, and the new one is a crewcab short bed, with a tracrac system and their brand toolbox that slides. realizing how nice it was to have a util body. that's why it's so hard to get rid of that old truck. i think as long as i can have room on the jobsites for the trailer, i'll be ok. even with the util body, i found myself not having room to haul everything that i might need, and you always forget something. let me know how you like it once you start using it. I think setting up the inside to be efficient and balanced is the hardest part of having a trailer. |

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
I was told it just went to weld, so I won't see the thing for another month, then it goes to the graphics shop, so probably another week or two more from there.

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Compressor outside, keep a 50'er to get to the front door, then get another hose-maybe on a reel- that goes from there inside. If it's different than the "outside" hose, it should be remembered....
We stopped using a jobsite compressor & switched to a big shop sized one. It's in the trailer, and it never runs out of air! All I need is a good 20amp cir. to run it off of. ![]() ~Matt |

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Got the first version of the trailer graphics and they are kind of weak in my opinion.
Been playing around with some ideas. This one is the best of what I can come up with so far. What do you think? Last edited by Mike Finley; 04-25-2007 at 03:34 PM. |

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
Looks good Mike
Have you considered having more information about what you do besides bathroom remodels on the trailer? Such as - elegant bathroom remodels - custom trim and door instalation - all phases of construction Then your not just limited to one thing......I know if I was a H.O. wanting to get some doors and windows put in, or some baseboard, and I saw your advertisement I probably wouldnt even think to call you because it appears you solely focus on bathroom remodels.....and dont get me wrong I am not saying thats a bad thing at all.... I am not trying to be rude or offensive...if you have a business model that works for you awesome, from the looks of things you are in better condition than me I am just offering some friendly advice

Re: Getting The Trailer, Finally!
No problem A.W. Actually all we do is bathroom remodeling, so you won't see anything else in our advertising. We actually want to be limited to one thing. I'm in the baby steps of trying to build a brand with all of this, so it's laser beam narrowly focused.
On the back trailer doors I think I am going to have a shortened list of services, something like this. (I edited the post to put up the back end graphic) Last edited by Mike Finley; 04-25-2007 at 03:34 PM. |
