Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

Hello,

This is my first post. I am actually posting this for my husband. He found a 2006 Isuzu 12' Cube Van that Budget Rentals is selling. It is a 6.0 L gas engine; I think a 350 Chevy engine. The box is aluminum. I found this site while trying to figure out what kind of gas mileage it gets. Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your help!

Re: Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

Never have I seen an Isuzu (GM partner) without the 4 or 6 Diesel Turbo Banger (indestructible Motor). I know they make ones that suck gas, I just NEVER see them.

Re: Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

I would guess the MPG would be terrible, I didn't even know they made a gas model, I guess for rental companies because the renter would screw up and probably put regular gas in them. I wouldn't buy one without the diesel, what would be the point.

The 6.0 is a little bigger than the old 350 (5.7). Its also a much better motor. And yes, the gas mileage will be bad.

It's a 366 and it's a big block, as opposed to the 350 that is a small block, I don't know that the 366 is any better than a 350, it will have more torque but the gas mileage will be horrific and big blocks aren't necessarily know for longevity. Look for a diesel, they are so much better.

Thank you all very much! I will pass on the information to my husband. It's pretty much what we thought. We are going round and round what type of vehicle to buy. The cube trucks would be best but the gas is just horrible. Thanks again!

Actually a GM 6.0 is a small block, as is the 6.2 in the Escalade's and the 7.0 in the new Corvette.

The 6.0 and 6.2 have the same stroke as a 5.3 and have larger bores.

You're mixing up motor, the 6.0 truck motor is a 366 big block, you won't find them in cars, they were specifically for trucks, buses and the likes, they have 4 bolt mains, raised deck and extra oil ring. If you see one it looks like the old 396, 402, 427 and 454's, but the top end parts don't exchange (raised deck).

Re: Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

Oregonwater,
How much was the Isuzu going for? I'm sure a 2006 Sprinter costs about the same (or less) & only comes with a 5 cyl deisel. The 157" model is huge inside. Mine averages 20-22 mpgs & has a great resale price.

Re: Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

The Isuzu was going for $18,500 but they said it's been sitting there a long time so they would basically look at any offers. It has around 35,000 miles. He also saw a 3500 Sprinter this week for $16,500 (it had over 100,000 miles on it already) from a private seller.

My husbands problem is towing. How much can you tow with your Sprinter?

Re: Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

Looks like the new ones only come with V-6's, diesel or gas and only a 5-Speed Automatic Transmission.

3.0L CRD Turbodiesel
V6/5-Speed Automatic with AutoStick®
154 hp 280 lb-ft

3.5L Gas V6/5-Speed Automatic with AutoStick®
254 hp 250 lb-ft

Tow rating appears to be 5000 lbs for all models, I thought the bigger ones used to be 7,000 or 8,000.

Bigger bore, same stroke means quicker reacting, higher RPM motor.

Those things are awesome (with the diesel), I used to drive one (old employer (Abt) had a fleet of them), very reliable, they brake extremely well, don't bounce like the Freightliner box trucks (throwing stuff everywhere), turn on a dime, will get places other trucks won't, great air conditioner and last forever.

Oh yes!!!! With the heaviest of loads and the highest of speeds, these SOB's will stop and FAST!

Braking is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than acceleration. (they are not slow)

GM has not sold new a 366 big block since the early to mid 90's, roughly around 1992 or 93.

The bore and stroke on a big block 366 (6.0) is 3.935" x 3.76"

The Isuzu 6.0 is a GM late model 365 (6.0) small block with a bore and stroke of 4.00" x 3.62".

I'll be a monkey's uncle, the last GM 6.0 gas truck motor it was the 366 (of course that was years ago), I had no idea the were putting small blocks in bigger trucks. I remember the BB 366 well because while it looked like a standard big block a manifold off a standard big block and it wouldn't fit. I looked at the specs for the SB 365 and they're pretty impressive, I still would only get the diesel.

Specs from link:

Vortec 6.0L Gas Ratings and Performance

Power (Gross) 300 HP @ 4,400 rpm
Torque (Gross) 360 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm

Displacement 365 CID/6.0L
Cylinder Bore 4.00 in (101. mm)
Cylinder Stroke 3.62 in (92.0 mm)
Cylinders 8-Cylinder
Operating Cycles 4-Cycle

The N-Series gasoline vehicle is powered by a gasoline engine with 8 cylinders, 4 stroke operation, and 365 cubic inch displacement. The engine has been designed to deliver better performance, higher fuel economy, less noise, lower emissions and reduced maintenance than its predecessor.

The engine delivers more horsepower than the competition's V-10 with the fuel-efficiency of a V-8. Its peak torque beats the competition's gasoline-powered V-8s.

300 HP (224 KW) 860 lb-ft torque (1,161 N-m) 860 lb-ft torque (1,161 N-m)

860 lb-ft torque, that will move some heavy crap.

Couldn't find MPG anywhere on the site, but a 300 HP gas motor is going to eat a lot of gas.

Re: Gas Mileage For 2006 Isuzu Cube Van

I've been looking around the website, window shopping, and saw these:

I didn't know they made conventionals, are these just GMC Top Kicks (if they still have Top Kicks)?
