Gas gauge accuracy

Why can the manufacturers not make an accurate gas gauge? Why is it that every GM product I have ever owned or driven have a gauge that as soon as you get to half tank the needle goes down faster than from full to half? Also why does it still have 5 -6 gallons have in the tank when the gauge shows E?

Do you really want the tank to be empty when it reaches "E"? I sure don't. As for the way the monitor fuel level, most tanks are odd shapes. Why don't you ignore the gauges lines and remember where 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 really are? But I do agree that they have the technology to easily make thes things read true. But as long as I know that I can gwet 375 miles out of a full tank and it isn't empty yet, whats the big deal?

I have a good idea about the 5 or 6 gallons on "E". Fuel pumps are mostly in the gas tank now and let the fuel itself cool the motor. Once the motor gets exposed, then your fuel pump starts to heat up and premature failure is soon to follow.

Not to mention the fuel we use in the wintertime kicks up all the crap on the bottom of the tank and wreaks havoc on your filter screen to the intake of the pump. Once that gets plugged, you've got yourself one big bill.

Trust me.....I know. Suburban with a bad fuel pump. They had to take my axle off to get the tank off to get the fuel pump out, which is like $800 just for the part.

Keep your tank at least 1/4 full MINIMUM!

especially if ya got a diesel, don't wanna starve those suckers dry. newer ones are probably better off today, but otherwise you'd have to prime that sucker first.
