Re: Forget The Ford F-350

Buy an old grain truck with a dump bed and wood sides you could pick one up pretty cheap and make some sort of removable rack system for the back, then use it only for moving flats. I mean if you are moving that much plants it wouldnt be a totally bad idea to have a vehicle dedicated to just moving them around with.
The grain truck will be geared better for mpg then a dump truck,

Re: Forget The Ford F-350

I went to the Dodge dealer and looked at a 3500, Q-cab, SRW, 4x4, automatic. White, longbed, Laramie. Real nice truck. Loaded w/ everything. Navi, leather, A/C, sunroof, the works. Stickered at $55,671. Dealer says I can have it for $43,000 cash.

It sure would be a nice truck to have. Then I'll get this dump trailer for $17,000 and be set.

Driving around today I started thinking. This business is pretty much all I have in life that means anything to me. I love landscaping, it's always been a huge part of my life. I love the tools and equipment. What's really wrong with spending a lot of money on tools, trucks, equipment, etc as long as I make my ends? It's not like I have a family to support or anything.

I've been pretty good with money. Paid cash for everything I have, owe nothing. Have quite a large cash reserve. I've just been reluctant to spend it. Maybe it's time to change that a little bit.

When my current landscape trailer wears out I'm going to splurge and get a nice one from Haulmark.

Re: Forget The Ford F-350

So $43K is a good price for the Dodge? Should I hold out for a better deal because the new body style is going to hit showrooms in 2 months?

Either that or they'll give you a better deal on the one you're looking at now.

When I got my truck, I got the '08 cheaper because the '09s just came out and had new gadgets

I lost third gear on my truck yesterday, which is why I'm looking at what's available on lots now. Those 2-4 upshifts aren't real fun.

Hell with it. Sent an email to the salesman, told him to call me if he can do $41,000 cash OTD. Tagged and lettered.

Re: Forget The Ford F-350

Just going from a half ton to a heavy duty will make a huge impact. I went from a F150 to a Chevy 2500 last year. Still wondering why I didn't do it sooner. The amount of material I can take in one load is amazing. Not to mention not being slow as a slug when the F150 was loaded.

Re: Forget The Ford F-350

The salesman called me back, he told me there was no way they could sell, tag, and letter the truck for $41K. He said $41,500 was the best he could do. Wrote em a check and the truck will be ready tomorrow afternoon.

I got me some:

Big towing capacity

Air conditioning

A good radio

Comfortable seats

4 doors

So I got this truck for $41,500 and now to buy the dump trailer for $17,000. Looks like I saved $3500 over buying the International I really wanted. I guess I did good.

Eh,it's a done deal. I'll live with it.

At least I got some damn A/C.

Re: Forget The Ford F-350

I've got that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. That "Oh ****, what did I do" feeling. I'm loathe to spend a lot of money on a pick up truck, even though it was for the best.

Right after I wrote the check I felt nauseous and actually had to go to the head. It just kept running through my head "This is a pick up truck".

It'll take me a week or two to get used to it.

Re: Forget The Ford F-350

Congratulations! I also had buyers remorse this past winter when I bought my new van, and I paid cash to. I did not want to part with the money back then, not knowing how the economy was going to turn out.

Well, it's been one of our best years so far! (Knock on wood)

I had been looking at vans on Auto Trader for about a year. This one came up, and it was the best deal I had seen yet. I figured the middle of winter, in a bad economy was the time to buy! Glad I did....

Here she is.
