Fitting Big Tires On Truck

So I got some 285/75R16 put them on my 07 silverado and they rub pretty bad. Is there any good way to corrrect that without getting a lift kit?

Yes, put the old tires back on. Second option, Sawzall.

Keep the tires and put them on one of these. Plenty of clearance for that size.

Cut the fenders and buy fender flares, they make ones that are specifically for this type of thing.

Re: Fitting Big Tires On Truck

Why did you do this, anyhow? Did they have a sale at the tire shop called "Tires That Won't Fit Your Truck"?

they arent that big you dont have to cut the fenders, it just catches the back of the bottom on the inside when you turn all the way.

Perfect! The simple solution is at hand... don't turn all the way.

Re: Fitting Big Tires On Truck

when the tires are turned all the way, what exactly does the tire rub up against? Can whatever that is be moved or removed?

How is that Hyperchip working out for you?

didnt put the chip in since the tires arent on, I had to take them off and I dont want to recalibrate it for the tires later.

Re: Fitting Big Tires On Truck

Lift the front end of the truck up so weight is taken off the suspension and crank the torsion bars. You will need to count the turns and do the same amount of turns from side to side. I did this on my first D-Max as i run 265's on it and carry a plow. The second D-Max i just bought has 285's on it and that too carries a plow, how many turns those bars were cranked i dont know as i didnt do it. Both trucks handle fine and the tires wear fine. My first D-Max is on its 4rth st of tires since i bought it and i just had it aligned for the first time a couple weeks ago.

Re: Fitting Big Tires On Truck

Usually that has to do with your wheel offset.

a +10 to +15 offset is typical for gm trucks

whereas my dodge uses a -10 to -15

i put some +12's on my truck and they rubbed like the dickens but with -12's i have to crank the wheel and hit a bump to make them rub.

Dont mind the weird fender trimming on this pic, that was damaged before i bought it. I have since trimmed it to look cleaner. (these are 35X13.50's with 2" leveling springs. The edge juice with attitude to be installed soon)

Re: Fitting Big Tires On Truck

can the torsion bars be cranked on an '07? if they can that is one option but it will cause premature where and tear.
leveling kit is another option. Or you could cut a little out where its scrubbing. or get a lift kit.
I got a 6" lift and still had to do some trimming on the wheel well but nothing drastic. you cant even tell unless you know its there.
My tires are 35X12.50
