Best Dump Trailer?
Ok I know everyone's opinion on the enclosed cargo's, but I already have one of those. So what do you guys think about dump trailers. Manufacturer, size, low or tall one, weight capacity? I'm looking to purchase one in the next few weeks and after reading the great advice about the 7 x 14 cargos, I think it would be stupid to purchase without dropping a line here.

Re: Best Dump Trailer?
Bri-Mar dump trailers give me the best bang for the buck. I have a 7 x 12 deck over, and find it to suit my needs very well. I would absolutely recommend that you either get surge brakes or electric brakes on the thing, whatever manufacturer you go with.

Re: Best Dump Trailer?
It all depends on what you want to haul. If you want to haul just some small stuff like brush or yard waste I would get a dump trailer. But for about the same money around 7-10 grand you could buy a really nice used single axle dump truck. In Indiana I can legally haul 12 tons of stone in a single axle in a dump trailer maybe 5 ton and then you are pulling it with a pickup truck. I have seen many dump trailers 6x10 or 6x12 on there sides hauling mulch. They have a bunch of mexican guys driving like fools trying to get as much done as possible. I would steer away from a dump trailer if you want to haul anything more than light stuff. Just my opinion.

Maintainance...little to none registration.....$ 40.00 for 2 yrs. You can leave it at the job...dont have to worry about taking the ole 1 ton dump full of debris down to the local pat's pizza for lunch. Insurance...between the business coverage and the auto, none. Not having to go home to get the crew cab before picking up the kids at the nannie's...priceless

Re: Best Dump Trailer?
12 ton on one axle? That's amazing!!! Were to find a 12 ton single axle trailer!!! LOL...
I bought a brand new 2004 PJ 14ft 14 yard dump trailer for just under $6K with the extra 2ft tall sides and spare tire and rim mounted on the side. It's been owned for three years now and so far this year alone it's paid for itself. 25 trips to the dump $40 on average or $300 for a dumpster times 25, simple math, the dump trailer wins every time!!! The PJ is great and it's worked perfect for a minumal of 60 jobs. Some loads get filled to the top and some even get loaded with a bobcat and stick up a couple ft past the top. I let my good friend barrow it last year and he hauled several loads of rocks with it to make a 50ft+ 8ft tall wall between his house and pole building. He said it worked perfect for him to haul the rock and the bobcat. I had him weld a couple roof jacks to the side to hold a ladder. The trailer weighs in at 4,500 lbs empty and is pulled with the F250 or Excursion both 4x4 diesels. My old dump trailer was bought for $900 and sold for $500 but never dumped. Home made in the 70's weighed 5,500 lbs empty two 3 ton axles. For unloading shingle bebris found wrapping the whole load with logs chains and paying the operator $5 at the dump worked good. Used it for 3 years and worked perfect for 30 jobs. As fast as dumping with electric hydrolics. With the same method as mentioned above I even use my 20ft tilt bed trailer with four ft side walls when there's no time to run to the dump with the PJ. The trailer is an H&H and works pretty good. With more tear offs then ever thinking about getting a F350-550 and buying a fifth wheel double dually axle dump trailer, 20 footer. A dump truck has crossed my mind several times but were do you put the ladder, air compressor and equipment? Like going to the job with one vehicle and leaving that night with all the debris and equipment in one vehicle/trailer combo. Renting dumpsters is just plain stupid. |

Re: Best Dump Trailer?
The PJ has hualed a couple loads of red rock crushed gravel and it worked great. One load was 5 ton hauled with the F250 when I built the 250ft cedar fence and the other time the Excursion pulled 6 ton of 3/4 in minus for the driveway at the hobby farm.
One run with the rear gain open a couple inches and another run with the plow and the driveway was good as new. |

Re: Best Dump Trailer?
Fauker_9,
My best buddy at Lone Bear Construction has a Big Tex gooseneck model 14GD with a vinyl cover; a VERY NICE RIG. We've parked it on site for construction debris, recycled TONS of aluminum window frames from vinyl retro-fits, and hauled his entire business to Arizona from Seattle, with a HUGE damned HOTTUB strapped on top to boot!! Every one of us needs a dump trailer; this one has performed WELL.
