adjustable shelves for trailer?

I have been following the other 3 threads on trailers and am in the process of designing/building shelves for a cube van i just bought. Has anyone come up with a system that you can adjust the width of the compartments for tools? By this i mean i am looking at making shelves certain heights depending on tools and would like to put 1/4" or 3/8" ply in between the tools to keep them organized. I would like to be able to adjust these 1/4" peices of ply if i buy a new tool or re organize. I was thinking of maybe using a router to make a groove in the shelves on the top and bottom so the peice of 1/4" can slide in and out. I would make a groove every inch or so. This might be to many grooves and weaken the shelf itself. Anyone have a system like this or any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds good as long as the top and bottom of the shelves are thick enough for a 1/4" groove or so. Our trailer is shelved with 2x2 framing that uses gusset plates all over to stay strong and light weight. I like your idea. You could keep all tool cases together etc... I might steal for the trailer I'm getting in a few weeks. Thanks!
