I have a 98 with a 5.7 engine. I have replaced the tranny @ 106K, Fuel pump at 80K, Intake manifold gasket @ 69K, I got the dealer to convert the injectors to MFI type for free under an EPA thing. I also replaced the radiator for leaks and did the water pump and idle pulley while in there. It has for a long time had the STICKING VALVE syndrome, while under a light load 1500-2000RPM it skips. Once you get up in the RPM range or get off the load condition it is all good. I took it on a 400 all interstate trip last week, No A/C for half the trip and got 20MPG. Truck has 150K on it.....

Had a '96 Z-71 and put 185k on it mostly towing a 24' enclosed car hauler around the country for Pacesetter. Never had a tranny problem once and averaged 12-14 most of the time with best of 16 lowest of 4 pulling 10,000lbs. My favorite truck burned to much fuel for me to keep pulling the trailer. Drive a Dodge now and hate the Dodge but love the Cummins, 7700lbs empty gets 22-24 with 36" rubber.
