'07, '08 GMC Sierra's
Any owners out there? I'm in the market for a new truck and after 24 years of Dodge, I regret that their '08 interiors are (seats) are just plain cheap. Lousy fabric and no support in the cushions. I test drove the 2500HD with the premium cloth seats and it was nice. Just wondering how the mechanicals hold up.
Specifics: GMC 2500HD 4WD, 6.0 gas, Extended Cab, 8'bed, SLE2 interior package. |

Re: '07, '08 GMC Sierra's
I have a 04 Silverado 2500HD (same truck as you know) 2wd, extended cab, 8' bed with 6.0 L and have not had a single mechanical problem with it so far. I orderd it with the "work truck package" though. No cloth seats or carpet. My only pet peeves are...the automatic headlamp sensor that sticks up in the dash board clips in with such a crappy little holder, that if you wipe too hard when cleaning the dash, it will snap out and fall down, not completely below the dash, but enough to piss you off; and I expect the aux 12V jack in a heavy duty truck to be wired with something more than trash 20ga wire that will fry if you plug anything more than a lap top into it. Good vehicle IMO.

Re: '07, '08 GMC Sierra's
I drive an 03 GMC Sierra 1500 ZL-1, It has almost 100,000 miles on it, and has been in the shop once, to have the passenger side heated mirror replaced. My hunting truck is my old work truck, a 92 GMC Sierra ZL-1, it has 245,000 on it, and has never had any work done aside from routine maintenance and replacing an alternator and a starter.

Re: '07, '08 GMC Sierra's
We've got 2 06 Chevy's (before the re-do) and an 07 Dodge.
I really wish we could afford to get me a dodge- it's my brother's! It's much nicer, FWIW. ~Matt |

I thought the Dodge's ride was like a road wagon and very rough next to a Chevy. Its just my opinion that Chevy has the smoothest ride.

Re: '07, '08 GMC Sierra's
I have an '07 2500 HD 2WD 8' bed, extended cab with the V8 6.0L, 6 sp tranny.
Very nice truck. Only have 6K miles on it but it has great power and a smooth ride. No problems mechanically so far. The radio crapped out in the 1st week but was replaced quickly, great service at my dealership. Gas mileage was about 15.1 MPG but since I loaded it with 800lbs of boxes and tools it went down to 12.5MPG, but this also has coincided with winter so I am not sure if it is the cold or my actual mileage. I also got the work truck package, I wanted the SLE but I bought it end of the year and this is what they had on the lot. I had power windows installed as aftermarket option. I really like the vinyl seats over the cloth for ease of cleaning. And the vinyl is very leather like, it has fooled a lot of people until I told them. The floor is also rubber mat covered. Makes for easy clean up, great feature for a work truck. I don't like the 6 speed transmission. It is a stupid transmission. It always wants to be in the highest gear possible and it affects drivablility, if you give the gas a little waver it will downshift like it should. Otherwise it would just be doggy and unresponsive. The tow mode setting is outstanding.

I'm glad to hear on the mechanical side no one has had any real problems, though not that my Dodges have ever been problems either. I received an email from Dodge the other day showing their '09 Ram 1500. By the looks of the photos the interior is closely copied from what is in the '08 GM's. New style switches and knobs, and full center console. The seat backs are new but the seat cushions are flat with no support. I am going to wait until mid- late February to order. They tell me about 4 weeks for order time. GM's current incentives expire 3/3/08 and the incentives you get are what's in place when the truck delivered, not ordered. Maybe I can squeeze a couple more $$$ out of GM after March |
