Work Clothes. What Do You Wear??

We like to look pro. on the job and clean as we are in and out of high end homes. We mainly wear skiller.com pants and shorts. and tees with our logo on them.

I worked on a project where a "Great carpenter" according to the HO was also doing a some work the guy showed up in old ripped jogging pants and one of those free beer shirts ripped and it looked unwashed for weeks. needless to say he sucked as a carpenter and we ended up spending a week fixing all his screw ups....

I am not saying the better you dress the better carpenter you are. But if you cant take time in the day to wash your shirt or comb the hair. how long do you think he will take to fit the crown in the house.

but what is the best clothing you have found...

here is a few to look at

blaklader.com i am totaly getting the kilt
skiller.com

the uk has better workwear the north america hands down.

I buy most of my stuff from Duluth Trading. The long-tail tee's are great and last forever, hoodies, sweathsirts, oil-skin baseball caps (water resistant) and insulated pants. Great company with a great product and great service.

Re: Work Clothes. What Do You Wear??

Carhartt pants and a hoodie or t-shirt....normally i look like a total slob; unless I am meeting someone then i wear a golf shirt and slacks.

You are correct about the UK stuff looks awesome, id like to get the pants with the knee pads in em.

You mentioned shorts? Safety won't allow anyone wearing shorts on a commercial site here.

Re: Work Clothes. What Do You Wear??

Currently Wrangler jeans (for durability more than style) and either a grey t shirt with my company name or a button down shirt (I've got bunches of them)

I'm about to replace the t shirts with Carhartt Pocket Henleys and maybe switch to the double front duck dungarees.

Always work boots. I hate tennis shoes, only wear them to the gym. And usually a cap, either Carhartt or from the lumberyard I use.

I don't wear random logos/slogans for work clothes. Maybe a Texas hat from time to time, but that's it. (University of Texas, my little brother goes there) Lumberyard gimmie hats, and hoodies, and my Carhartt stuff.

Re: Work Clothes. What Do You Wear??

Many of the best carpenters I ever met did not dress that well. Some of the best dressed were also some of the biggest hacks. I don't think there is really a correlation. I will usually wear jeans and a company shirt. The rest of my guys usually wear the same. If I have to bid a job I may dress a little nicer. A couple of weeks ago I went to bid a job and actually washed my van!!! Well it was a pretty big job. Looks like we got it too. I may wax it next time.

Re: Work Clothes. What Do You Wear??

Really depends on what I'm doing that day. If it's something involving floor glue, floor filler, stain or varnish, more than likely I'll look like the hack that you said couldn't run crown. No sense in ruining more clothes. Most of the time though, I just wear jeans & T shirt. If I'm going to write a bid, I'll dress the part. Like warren, I don't see the correlation as to how I dress compared to my skill set. I can run crown just as well in ratty jeans as I can in clean jeans.

Re: Work Clothes. What Do You Wear??

I do know that for me having work clothes, and looking presentable is almost a motivating thing for me. Kinda like putting my bags on puts me in a working mindframe. Having work clothes is part of my "work setup"

Plus looking professional has gotten me more than a few jobs. Had several HOs tell me that taking pride in how I look made them more confident I'd also take pride in what I do.
