A Company formed in Lichtenstein.

Became a German based operation.

Tools, for the most part, made in Jianzheng, (sic) China.

There is a Deep Homo (Home Depot) by me that has a HUGE Hiliti display and there is a Hiliti guy in there almost every day cleaning the display up and making sure everything is in order. They recently had or are going to have a demo day where you can come and try out their tools and they give you feel stuff, hats and what not.

Not China

Schaan is the HQ. Tools are made in various European countries for the most part. Hilti in Europe is like seeing DeWalt in the US if not bigger.

5 or 6 years ago Hilti strarted showing up in many of the Home Depots here in southeast Michigan. First they had huge displays staffed almost all the time. A few even had their own areas complete with demo areas, gates, and everything.

As time went on, the areas got smaller, the hours the Hilti guy was there lessened, the number of stores they were in decreased, and having the bits, blades, and supplies you got used to buying there no longer available, and soon Hilti was all gone at the HD.

It was nice you could buy Hilti without having to go out of your way to a local distributor. Since HD primarily caters to hacks, homeowners and DIYers who would never spend that much money on a tool, it is not surprising that it bombed.

Exactly why they left, Home depot wanted to mark up the cost and Hilti is expensive enough. They beefed up their sales force and now have territory managers that will come to you and sell very competitively. WELL WORTH THE PRICE THOUGH@!@@

Anyone wanna argue with this?????

Production in Austria, Germany, China (2) and USA.

"1990 - Inauguration of a production plant at Zhanjiang, People’s Republic of China."

"2004 - Inauguration of the expanded segment of Hilti's manufacturing plant in Zhanjiang, China. In addition to Zhanjiang, Hilti has operated a second plant in China since September 2004."

Thats pretty much what I thought, not in the USA. Its funny, in the crepos around here they only have them in the tool rental department, not for sale. I have always wanted to check them out. I think a new hilti distributer opened up not to far away from me, I'm gonna have to take a swing by and have a look.

Actually Home Depot does not own HD Supply anymore. Before they sold it in 2007 they only owned it for less than a year, and they lost millions in this venture of buying up all kinds of wholesalers and then the board deciding they didn't want to be in this business. One of my suppliers HD Waterworks formerly Hughes Supply and before that Western Utilities was bought by Home Depot for 3.2 billion about 6 months before they sold out.

From a Hilti news release in 2005.

"Pius Baschera, CEO of the Hilti Group, sees the expansion of the plant as a clear strengthening of the company's competitive ability: "Hilti wants to further enhance supply chain efficiency while continuing to reduce production costs. Zhanjiang represents an additional step in this direction."

Hilti operates production facilities in Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, Hungary and China."

Looks like they don't have the plant in the USA anymore.

I own quite a bit of Hilti and if I'm not mistaken although they have factories around the world alot of their stuff is made by third party companies. According to my impact its made in Sweden, batteries Poland, auger bits France, concrete bits Germany etc etc.

Malco your right, I never heard of Apex Supply before.

Found a interesting Google link that has a timeline.

http://www.google.com/search?q=Home+...itle&resnum=11

I have only dealt with White Cap and HD Waterworks. Most of my info came from the guys at HD Waterworks. They knew 6 months after Home Depot bought them that the whole works was up for sale.

Home Depot kind of screwed up that company (Huges Supply). They reorganized the company, let go the higher salaried managers and sales guys that had been there for years and knew their stuff. Had fewer employees at each location, etc. Whats funny is after Home Depot sold it all the old guys are back, and they have more employees at each location.

At least Festool is still made in Germany. They have sand paper and few other comsumables made in the czech republic. Their tool cases are also made in Germany.

I hope the Hilti stuff made in china is as good as it used to be.

I hope the Hilti stuff made in china is as good as it used to be. I have noticed other euro companies have stuff made in Czech republic. Its like US companies used to have things made in Mexico- Cheeper labor and less enviromental/OSHA type restrictions.

Some consumables are made in china...screws etc.

However...Their cordless screw drill/driver and impacts are a partnership with Panasonic. Hilti designs the tool and Panasonic the batteries. Recent press release if you google "hilti panasonic."
