Not sure Needs, but it looks like you could use it for a bottle opener. On second thought why don't you ask old Denick . He's been around lots longer than most people on this Board.

What do I win.

Mike, are you sure that it's off of a destroyer? Which one?

Umm, the William Buckley while it was stationed out of Papau New Guinea from April 1944 to Dec 1945.

You probably thought it was off a PT, that's a common misconception, but you can always tell the difference because the ones off of PTs because they had a pointer under the set screw you can see between the two bigger knobs.

I would bet it isn't complete, but with the partial azimuth, it has to be something with grade or abgle...and that is my best guess.

I disagree. I believe it was used by the ancient Italians for determining the correct pizza slice angles.

I can't believe that nobody knows what this thing is.

It's driving me out of my nuts. An old Egyptian saying. I worked for the dude for years.

I already said what it was. It's the scale off the side of a larger framed sine vise or similar machinist's workholding device. That was not a joke. That is what it is. It looks pretty thrashed, by the way. It is basically worthless without the vise or workholder that it was designed to go on.

I've spent more than a few years in machine shops and own a few vices, never seen anything like it.

G17, G20, G40, G41, gotta look at my notes, it's been years.

The piece is actually in very good condition, the action of the slides is great and the markings are all very readable as I use it for it's true intended purpose, which is ........to hold down all the loose papers next to my computer!
