Well I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me.
well today i almost broke my wrist and knocked myself out with my own elbow. can anyone guess how?
i was boaring out some holes today with a corded drill in some doors for privacy deadbolts and the hole bit hung up and almost clocked my self a good one and now im out of work for two weeks with a sprained wrist and elongated forearm muscle. can anyone recommend a good corded powerdrill with a CLUTCH for doing stuff like that and also for drilling studs to run romex/wiring and such? i guess we can rule out milwaukee cause i just looked through their 2006-2007 catalog and the one that almost took me out was a milwaukee. Re: Well I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me.
I know the Bosch has one. Works nice in cases like that.
On a side note, me and the guys on my crew used to have a "teach him a lesson" trick. If they ticked me off, I'd make them go get a drill and drill out the dryer vent hole which was a 4½" hole saw drill attached to a decently powerful drill. I'd say something to the effect of "go do this, you can't harm anything by doing that, now go do that and prove you belong back here" It was my own personal hazing of crew members

What's wrong with using an 18v + cordless drill for this light work?

Did the drill have a chuck handle on it? Were you using it? I find that helps quite a bit when I hit a nail or something.

We use the Milwaukee Super Hawg to drill a 2" ship auger bit in our logs for electrical. It has a clutch and is long enough to control. This might be a little big for you so you might want to try a spade drill.
![]() Its triple gear reduction so it has lots of torque it spins at 500 rpms. About $169 at Cheapo Depot.

I always use my 18 volt Makita for drilling locksets. and for electrical for that matter.

It's you it isn't the drill. I use a hole hawg daily and other guys call it the suicide drill. If you use the long handles and hold it right it will never hurt you.

Even though there are certain ways to hold a drill, SOMETIMES one can forget including this poster. I also recommend the super hawg because it has a clutch for those dangerous situations. For some reason, Milwaukee did not build any of its hole shooter drills with a clutch.

I think this has happened to use all at one or another,I've found that a finer tooth hole saws work best .They don't catch as sudden but take a little longer to drill . Milwaukee hole saws have finer teeth and is what I use. Always have leverage and be prepared for the sudden stop.

The larger the cutter the slower the speed should be. I know it's hard to slow down.

Re: Well I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me.
get a right angle drill if your running through studs they are extremely nice to work with. I too have never been turned by a drill. Yes I am knocking on wood right now tho!!!
