Trailer Wiring

Got a used trailer and am trying to get the wiring for the lights to work.
Got a schematic from google- everything works but when I hit the brakes
with the lights on, the brake lights in the trailer go out. Ground???
Any help would be appriciated, thanks.(the harness is a 4 prong hooked up
to a dodge). Also, the trailer dosent have brakes, just running, turn and brake lights.

Re: Trailer Wiring

Your description isn't clear-do you mean the tail lights go out when the brake lights come on? some vehicles need a converter to 'convert' the vehicle tail lights to operate the trailer lights. Maybe a truck which has separate turn signals and brake lights would be an example-as the trailer uses the same bulb for turn and brake function. is that your problem?

trace the problem down by applying turn and brake function, then independently. Ground could be a problem, but not likely if tail light is working properly. I've had all functions go out before when applying electric brake b/c of a bad ground...not in your case though.

Re: Trailer Wiring

Yeah, you're going to have to provide more info, how many bulbs for the tail lights, sometimes the brake and turn indicator share the same filament and that can be a problem and require a component if the vehicle you are hooking up to has separate filaments for brake and turn.
