Joining heads @c your really right about the$$$$$$ but they are the rolls royce from Carpenters power tools.I've never seen a dead one yet and if your cutting roofs and you haven't got them be wear because if some one else gets them .They'll walk all over your prices and you wont even know what's hit you.

Re: Tools That Changed Your Life

I was reading this thread again and I owe this little bit of kit an honorable mention. I have the 5 inch vice grips in my tool belt and NEVER start work without them. From grasping nails with stripped heads to undoing gutter brackets at a pinch, the mini vice grips are a life saver:

You and me both.

I started in 1989 with the 4" vise grips (they came in a combo pack)...lost 'em and then I could only find the 5"

I just bought a new 4" Vise Grips at Hardware Sales in Bellingham and they rock!!!

Small enough to not get in the way...big enough to get things done.

Hitachi portable electric rebar bender....

Bought one in 03 and have purchased a few more since then, they don't last forever, but better than the old manual bender

Speaking of mafell I want to see and touch one of their giant timber circular saws. Those look scary awesome, I do love my Festools though(alot) but they cant sleep with my any more, my Grex pinner has that spot for a while.

Re: Tools That Changed Your Life

The Mafall circular saw's aren't really portable power tool's.There more like a bench saw with handle's on they kick in you hand's when you switch them on there's that much power in them they'll eat anything. If your using them all day when you go home at night your knuckle's are dragging along the flour.they have other tool's and the first time I used them it was really a culture shock.

Collin's coping foot for my jigsaw. Lately, I just started doing alot more crown molding & I always sucked at using a coping saw, so anything that will keep me from mitering all of my corners is a friend of mine.

Hey Quiglag,
That spring tool nail set is great. My customers really wonder what this little tool making all that noise is? It sure beats a hammer & nail set in most cases.

LOL, love the background image on the computer!!! Yeah, the 5 inch grips have gotten me out of trouble more times than I can remember. I actually got mine in a combo kit too but by accident. I was leaving for Norway and had a heap of unused caulk and bits from a hardware store. They would only give a store credit so I grabbed the vice grips and some other bits. Boy I'm glad I did the impulse thing.

Re: Tools That Changed Your Life

thinking about the stuff I carry in my belt, I've thought of a couple other things-

I've switched entirely to using mechanical standardized test taking pencils instead of carpenter's pencils. They result in way less frustration with the tip breaking, or having to continually sharpen them to get a good point for a narrow line. In addition, I now use pens in all my scribes, because the tips don't break and change the scribe settings like a pencil will.

I carry a scraper like the one below in my bags when doing finish work

I use it as a prybar, scraper, putty knife, temporary shim, you name it. Any more, I couldn't imagine doing finish work without it.
