Tips On Rebuilding Motor

I've rebuilt my dewalt sliding saw's motor in the past by replacing the armature, field and brushes, but not sure how to troubleshoot and determine if it is either the field OR armature in need of repair. I've come across a Bosch hammer drill, nice unit and good price if I can economically repair it. The symptom is it 'pops' when energized-no power to be had.

can 'sloppy' power cause the bad problem identified in the hammer drill above? I've been to a customer's house a couple of times and I'm leary of the plugin he has for me-its at the end of a 100' pump house run to the main home-plugging in another 75' into that location has got to yield an appreciable voltage drop.

Re: Tips On Rebuilding Motor

The pop might be a wire that broke off near the switch or somewhere along the cord.
