Never used it before but the prongs sticking out and banging the next board into them does not sound like a really simple thing to do. Not hard but not easy. Deckmaster HFS is not a hard system to work with if you have a right angle drill.

I heard a horror story of someone who thought it would work with ipe.

Really bad move.

Ugh...I would rather use a staple gun with T50s

What a joke that thing is. Stay away from it!

I agree, I would never buy one unless someone brought it to me and did a demo for me and it really did work (I doubt that it does work) then I might consider it. I will stick with my correct tys with correct deck composite for the time being. Anything else will be deckmasters. But I do agree that hidden fasteners are the best way to go if your customers are willing to pay for it.

I have to agree, HFS 's are the future of decking... especially with the innovations in the systems going on these days

Re: Tebo Deck Stapler

Hi im a professional contractor and we use the tebo some deck we do.

i know i wake a 6 years old topic but after reading this i tought if you dont know the you should not talk about it...

i know now...

the tebo is great and easy to use. when i first put my hand on this i tought it would be a pain to use but not much then others hidden system. i was wrong. Tebo install plank as fast as i will do with a wood floor. my carpenter who used it is totally sell to it. at first when i saw the angled staple i said to myself that using this it gonna be a pain. in fact everything align perfectly and the next plank enter the prone part with out much effort. you need to leave no gap between plank as the plank dry it will contract but the plank remain tight. ( that was my biggest concern)

We never tryed on Ipe and predrilling with this system seem a pain so i will probably not try.

But, with cedar and treated wood it's marvellous, fast and easy. Much faster then drilling. The downside is the staple are expensive but counting the time we gain the final cost for the deck is about the same.

one thing i like is that the stapple goes on the side of the frame not on top, reducing the water damage on the long term ( i guess, time will tell)

the down side is if you want to install the plank at an angle, you need to frame at angle. When you put the last planks you cant use the stapler. they make a staple for this, we put SS 16g nail at angle on both side and we glue the plank with deck glue, that's faster. but not as invisible as the staple would have be.

i saw a similar system HIDfast, it's weird that the inventor as the same name as this system, Mr. Tebo. i dont know if it's related in some way. but their system is air driven, and tebo is not. witch best ? i would have to try HIDfast to tell.

we started using this this years, so i can't tell for the long term we will see.

Glenn Tebo invented the Tebo gun...sold it and then invented the HIDFast.

The HIDFast is excellent. In fact, we might be going 100% HIDFast on all our deck products in lieu of clips.

We have a Tim Tebow that we aren't using. Put him on the HIDFast to use both of them.

Interesting you say that. When I saw this gun I imediatley thought that the ability of this gun to work on so many different products would eliminate a lot of annoying different fastener systems. For a guy like you this would greatly increase turn over time.

Let us know if there is some draw backs and if most manufacturers will accept it. Good luck

Board failures are not a result of the fasteners so if a board fails, the fastener is can't be realistically brought into the situation.

We use a lot of clips with good results but HIDFast is absolutely faster when using grooved boards (which most are except Azek) and it also through fastens the board to the joist which is really helps to eliminate squeaks and lateral movement.

I know a few big deck contractors that have gone 100% HIDfast with good results.

Cool ----so is adhesive a must when using them? I thought solid planks were advised. I would think there is a potential of splitting some grooves.

No adhesive.

I've tested it on grooved PVC and three kinds of capstock composite with excellent results. No splitting at all.

He needs to send me a gun to try out on the steel frame, I've heard rumors that it does work.
