In my case it's being pretty rough with it . Loading material in my van and piling it on top of tools in a hurry stuff like that .

Another issue I've seen is some people push down pretty hard on the knob that adjusts the fence . The older models had a little bit more play and you could have it jump a tooth if someone pushed down to hard while changing the postion of the fence .
Like another poster said a big key is to make sure you have the rails put in before putting the saw away . I have never had the saw come close to falling over .

For me I just check the fence every couple of months and no worries .

Re: Which Table Saw

I'm still partial to my 20 year old Makita table saw, it's the only portable saw I've seen with an out-feed table. I don't understand why most the newer ones don't come with one, that seems like a critical thing to me.

Makita still makes them

I would stay away from the DeWalt, as mentioned earlier, the fence is retarded, too hard to align. But yeah, you'll probably be happy with the Bosch.

Fence is retarded ???? I find that kinda funny as the fence is the one reason I bought the DeWalt 744 . I can make 1/32 adjustments with the turn of a knob and don't have to put my tape on it . It is a precision fence for a jobsite saw .

I happen to think it is the best fence on a portable table saw out there . I checked them all out before I bought it . I do not get the ones who say it is hard to adjust . I'm no mechanical genius but a quick read of the manual and it was a 5 minute task . Oh well to each his own but retarded is well ..... retarded to describe the dewalt fence . I suggest one really tries it out before making judgement .

Thanks I TRY to put the rails in when I'm done.

I have let others use it once or twice and made a HUGE point that you have to UNLOCK the fence BEFORE turning the knob to adjust.

To the ones that didn't let it sink in didn't get to touch the saw again.

Re: Which Table Saw

I've been looking at the 745 too. I currently use a bosch 4100 and its a pain to lug around. I figure get the little table saw and any larger things that need to be ripped can be done with a track saw or guide and circular saw until then. I like the roll cage for the 745 as well, the base of the older 4100's chips off from loading and banging around.

Re: Which Table Saw

ive got one of those little 745's and i kinda like it (all the heavy ripping is done on my general international saw).

Rosseau makes a stand for the 745 like the old makita stands.

Re: Which Table Saw

That table looks awesome!

In my old shop I had bolted 2 pieces of strut that my table saw's legs would connect to so that I could rip 4X8 MDF/Plywood sheets by myself without the POS tipping over. That stand would have made my life alot easyer.

If you know how to use it, it's probably fine. But it's not very user friendly, nothing worse than having three guys huddle around a saw trying to figure out how to adjust it, which I've seen happen with the DeWalt.

ahhhh, then those would be three guys i would'nt want near any of my jobs then if they're so mentally challenged that loosening two bolts is really that tough of a concept to grasp LMFAO!!!! WOW!!!

WTF do they do when it's time to crank the saw blade up up or down? Do they get the HO involved and ask his thoughts

I guess I'm just lucky with my DeWalts. When I need to do something it doesn't seem to hard to correct.

Interesting POV though I always liked them 'cause I thought compared to other brands user friendly was the best way to describe DeWalt.

(as long as you keep the torgue bits on hand)

I knew you would say that, but stupid or not, they get paid, time cost money. I've used the DeWalt table saw just fine, but there is something weird with the fence to where it can get out of whack easy, I just don't remember what it is. I don't see any reason to mess with it though, that's why I'd only get the Bosch or Makita.

All the tool brands have their glitches with certain tools. My only DeWalt is the 12" chop saw which I've had for 10 years and it's worked great. But that doesn't mean I'd trust them with all of their tools.

I know the time is money and i admit the first time i had the fence get out of whack it took me a minute to see what affected what so i knew which bolt to loosen up, but after i seen how easy it was, and how seldom it goes out of sync to me it's a non issue for the light weight/compact/accurate/plenty of power for anything we've ever needed it for advantages.

The leading cause to fence misalignment is guys storing it back away with the fence out, or roughly putting it away with other materials/tools bumping/jamming into it like what seems to be the norm with employee's and the abuse they bring since nothing is theirs. i would'nt mind trying other table saws, but you know how we all get, if it aint broke, dont fix it LOL!! Hence why i bought a second Dewalt table saw

Re: Which Table Saw

Whatever floats your boat, the DeWalt is the only one where I've had issues with the fence though. Well except an old skil table saw I used that cost about $100, I remember had a bad fence on it.

Of course if you're using your own tools, even if something isn't right, you may not notice it because you're used to it. It's like when I hand my sawzall to someone else they say it's broken and it's a piece of sh*t. I'm like, what do you mean? I use it and it works just fine.

Get one you can carry. I wouldn't own a saw that didn't give me a hernia.
