This saw is very portable, I can carry with one hand. Attatches to the stand quickly without any loose bolts or nuts to lose.

Rips a sheet of plywood.

Hook your dry/wet vac into the dust port and it is virtually sawdust free.

Cuts well.

Doesn't break the bank.

I've got the same saw, and I like it for all the same reasons. Unless I know that I'll be using it a ton, however, the Hitachi stays in the shop and I toss a $89 disposable special into the back seat to bring to the job. I go in for a new cheapie about once a year. I don't feel bad about abusing it a little, and there's no better tool to have in the field when tou need to "invent a solution" to something.

Thumbs up on the Hitachi.

Re: Table Saw?

most any of the simpler cheaper name brand saws without the extendable table or fence can make an excellent choice when set in a rousseau stand. It gives you a large work table, and it's dirt simple. In addition, it's a light saw (compared to say a bosch or dewalt) and a heavy stand, so the overall weight comes out about near the larger saws, so you don't push it around the floor as much, but it's easier to move because you don't have the big heavy saw to lug around, its a bit more spread out. In addition, the cheaper saw and good stand will still cost less than a split table or extended fence saw alone will cost you.

As for the split table and extended fence saws, I've only ever used the Dewalt and the Bosch. Both are equally accurate, powerful, smooth, and give a perfect cut with a good blade, but do yourself a favor and get the Dewalt, because the fence is so much easier to use. Also, you get the simple folding stand that nothing can go wrong with, as opposed to the rather complicated spring loaded Bosch stand that I have seen collapse before because the latching mechanism didn't properly hold.

Re: Table Saw?

just picked up the dewalt 744 with stand. I love it, probably could have got buy with the newer smaller and cheaper 745 but oh well. We used to use my dads 40 year old cast iron craftsman with homemade dust box/stand plenty of power but a beast to lug around.

Re: Table Saw?

Interesting comments from everyone. I've been buying tools for well over 20 years. And recently was burned out and have the joy of replacing all my tools. I know what I like, but it's great to hear different opinions on different tools. Thanks

Re: Table Saw?

I've been checking on table saws as well. For now I think Bosch has my vote. I got a presentation at JLC Live and was very impressed with the well thought out user options. And I've been lugging around this junk Craftsman and the stand for years, the gravity stand will make both storage and transpotation much easier.

Re: Table Saw?

Has anyone checked out the new Bosch 4100 DG, it offers a digital readout to within 1/32 of an inch. I'd love see how this holds up to extreme service conditions.

Bosch with the gravity rise stand. Easy to move around, tune, change blades.

Cons:
Price
Ground Clearance
Insert (Little piece of metal that is supposed to keep the anti-kickback pawls from screwing up the blade insert fell off).

Bottom line? We likes it.
