Strapshot Help Please

Hey guys, I just picked up the 1 1/2" strapshot joist hanger nailer and used it for the first time today. It was terrible!
Every time I try to shoot a nail it either dry fires, dosent shoot at all or isnt sinking the nail all the way. Probly every 3rd nail shoots decent.

Am I missing something? You just put the tip of the last nail in the hole push and shoot, right? I looked over the manual and didnt see anything. Maybe I got a deffective gun or are these things that touchy?

Thanks, Dave

Re: Strapshot Help Please

Mine does just whack the hanger
and not shoot the nail every once
in a while....I always think it's just me.
The only other thing is, it won't fire
when you get down to the last 4 or 5
nails in a clip.
I run 110-120lbs and it sinks fine.

I am gonna take the hook off.
With winter clothes and 12"oc joist
its always caught on something!

Re: Strapshot Help Please

most of the misfires i have is like neo said the wack the hanger and not fire thing once in a while.

i found it to be more of positional thing - ie i think it has to do with the gun not being 90 degrees off the hanger.

i don't understand it all.

Re: Strapshot Help Please

I have the Hitachi and it only acts stupid when I am stupid and put in plastic collated TECOs or some off brand that is at the wrong angle for the gun. The Collated brand, paper collated nails work every time.

Observe your nail clips prior firing, during firing and after firing. maybe you'll catch something hanging up on the magazine or something.

I've had mine since I think the week they came out and have never had a misfire. After reading this thread, I'm guaranteed to get one!

I run at 110 and make sure I push hard as I fire.

I have noticed that sometimes I won't get a nice deep set if the gun is at a steep angle.

Re: Strapshot Help Please

Thanks guys, I'm using the bostich nails, hopefully thats not the problem. Tomorrow I'm gonna have to look at the gun real close and see whats up or how I am holding it. I hope it works I still have what seems like a million JH's to nail

Thanks, Dave

Re: Strapshot Help Please

I think it's something to do with angle.
Hard to tell with close quarters and
some times it takes the same pressure
to set the gun as it does to make my feet
slide backwards.
It's either been slime slick mud or
solid ice every time I used the thing.
I hope next deck the weather is more
conducive to close observation
of technique.

Re: Strapshot Help Please

Thats what I was thinking neo I know I always jag my dad about not being able to get used to new stuff now I know how he feels. This deck is on a hill, I can barely stand on my own in the mud let alone using a nailer Thats why I'm home right now, another day of rain!

Same here, rain followed by
freezing rain, followed by rain.
That's just the last 24 hours.
Can't wait to see the job tomorrow.
More snow Sunday, followed by
14º "high" on Monday.

Sounds like Monday I'll be home!
I give up when it's so cold the
deck screws freeze to your
fingers.

Actually the cedar is all nestled
snug in their heated garage.
If only I could get the deck
in there too.

Re: Strapshot Help Please

I called Bostich today after still having problems wit the gun. They were great! They said this has been a common problem with the lesser sold guns. The orings in the trigger and head are drying out sitting on the shelves. And I though I heard a very very small hiss from the trigger thought I was just hearing things though Anyway, they are sending me all new o-rings, that should fix it. So if anyone else has trouble that might be it.
