Stolen Tools

everyone has had tools stolen at some point. Last week I left the job early and left my radio there so the guys could keep jammin'. It was a bosch powerbox with a bosch battery in it. short of the long It's gone. and now Iv'e got a bosch drill with one battery as well. Looks like I'm going back to a twenty dollar wallmart boombox.

Re: Stolen Tools

'Pisses me off when tools get stolen even if they are not mine! I allways take extra time to engrave and sharpie "Stolen From Jim Pinson" all over my tools. I doubt it will stop a thief but someohow it makes me feel better knowing they have a lot to cover up or they can be reminded what they are.

I hope you had your name on the radio and battery somewhere. Then there is a chance it will get back to you. If I find something without a name on it I assume that the owner did not want it back but if I find something with a name on it I ask around and diligently try to find they guy.

Re: Stolen Tools

Every time I buy a new tool my name goes on it, whether its a 10 dollar pry bar, or a power tool. I engrave my name or initials if it has any metal on it.

I also put yellow electrical tape on my tools (on the ones that it can go on w/o being in the way)

My father had his shop broken into about 5 years ago, and had a lot of stuff stolen (had to be a previous employee because they took only certain stuff, and seemed to be very efficient about it) and he only had a 10K insurance policy because he figured if he ever had tools stolen if would be on a jobsite and he rarely carrys more than 10K with him. But in the shop it is a different story, and he really lost out on it. Hes still replacing tools to this day.

And that works in Guam????

I thought it was a COMPLETE Dynasty there and that the "Locals" are all "Family" with a "Screw Whitey" attitude?

Unless, of course, you are on Base and are "Protecting" your possessions from other enlistees?

A trick that I have used well is pink paint.
I kept haveing tools walk off so laid a bunch of them out and painted the bright pink. I haven't ever had a pink tool taken.

Re: Stolen Tools

getting gear stolen sucks, luckily ive only had a few small things taken, ive had 2 japanese hand saws get walked off with this year

on a reno we did recently, our hardwood installer left the site to goto the building supply to pick up some fasteners and a few other small things, while inside someone was parked outside the contractors entrance watching marked vehicles jumped in the van left with it then completely emptied everything but a couple open bags of morter, needless to say he wasnt able to have his guys split off into 3 crews, all he had left was the gear on our site, he had to pass on starting a couple other hardwood jobs while waiting for the rest of the hardwood to come into our job

Re: Stolen Tools

There are 5 rules that all tradesmen live by:
1 - You never faq with another man's tools
2 - You never faq with another man's lunch
3 - You never faq with another man's car
4 - You never faq with another man's money
5 - You never faq with another man's woman

Violating any ONE of these rules is cause for that man to break ALL these rules on you....repeatedly.

Steal my tools, My Girl, Car, or Lunch, I will get angry and "Pay You Back" someday when your pants are down.

Mess with my Mother, Dog or MONEY and today is going to be a very difficult day for the offender.

But it is all OK. For he will NOT remember what occurred!
