As some of you know, I am a Real Estate Broker as well as a Property Manager. That means I have to enter quite a few properties when the owners are not home. Many of them have dogs. Pit Bulls, German Sheppard's, little dogs (like the one that was on Frasier) Pit Bull is scary just because his size, but when I walk in, he keeps backing up. Stays 12" away from me. As long as I don;t back him in a corner, he will not attack. German Sheppard barks the most, but keeps a number of feet away from me. That damn little dog, nips the hell out of my arse and hands. I have to make sure I keep my hands in my pocket.

If you are scared of dogs, this might be a deterrent, but unless you trained your dog to attack, they will not. They will only make noise. In fact, if the person entering the house leaves the door open, the dogs will usually run out.

My friend got robbed on his wedding day. Had a dog in the house. The guys went through the back door. Cops say that they pried open the door and the dog was trying to get at them. They opened the door, dog ran out and they ran in. Locked the dog outside.

They've shown this a number of times on "It Takes A Theif". A moderately amusing TV show about how to break into a house and then secure it with what you've learned.
