There just isn't many locally made tools anymore.
It's too bad.

Pps. What's the 'going rate' on you guys? Do you think I might get one of ya for cheaper than a Chinese 'immigrant?' I'm thinking probably nowadays!

We're having this very same debate in my country. A big name clothing manufacturer just assed about 1000 workers & is sending the jobs to China. Public opinion was scathing, but then the CEO came out basically said your all full of sh*t because everyone wants it made here then bitches about the price & buys the cheaper one. This is fact & cannot be argued. It would be nice if it were different, but this is the ugly truth about consumerism.

and makita!
Max is made in china.
I always wondered why the new nail claws have a lower quality fit and finish than my older one.
What burns me about this too is that the price hasnt dropped at all on their products. We get a lesser quality, foreign ownership, and a higher price.

I dont think the debate is about only buying goods from your own country. If nations dont trade with eachother we will all starve (that is what caused the great depression, as well as the federal reserve monkeying with our currency). The reason we dont like chinese goods is that they do not honor our patents there, they flood our market with their products, place a high tariff on our imports, our brands here are sold to the highest bidder there and then marketed as if youre getting the same product you have always gotten, and they have a foreign policy that opposes us at every turn. They are still a communist nation and we trade with them as if they had a free market system.

I dont know if it is significant but all these companies were aquired in the the last 10 years. A majority in the last 5. (Stiletto in 2007)

Get over it guys....this is the 21st century, its happening to everything as revolting as it may be.
Even products that say "Product of country X" can have all their parts made in country Y.
Here in Canada quite some time ago there was a story released (I know i'm going to get the details wrong) about canned peas from brazil. They were canned there and shipped to canada where they were labled and sold. Now since the local labeling cost more then the actual can of peas they could stamp it "Product of Canada" since 51% of the cost was infact Canadian.
Pretty scary eh?

I saw something similar about Highliner Fish Sticks and all of their products. The fish is labeled product of Canada, when it's just packaged here or something similar.
" All those "Product of Canada" stamps on the majority of our food products don't mean squat. CBC Marketplace just aired a report on this issue and High Liner is on the top of the bull**** pile. The packaged Bassa, Haddock, Salmon, Tilapia even the shrimp in the alfredo entree are from Fish Farms in Vietnam or China."
