Stationary Joiner Recommendation
Okay, the 4" benchtop joiner is dead, time for a real one. I definitely want one with it's own stand (not benchtop) and probably a 6" width. I'd like to keep the cost under $500.
Any recommendations? Thanks! |

Re: Stationary Joiner Recommendation
I have a Delta 6" jointer that rarely sees any use. It is okay for 4'-5' stock, but the beds are just too short to efficiently joint a board much longer.
I have started using either my router table with the oufeed table adjusted out or just a handheld router with a straightedge. I find either way much more efficient with less waste than the jointer. Trying to handle a 10' board on a 6" jointer and get a clean, glue-line edge can be frustrating. You will spend a lot less money and get better results, unless you opt for something bigger for a jointer. Just my opinion.

The grizzly 6 inch is available with a longer bed then most. I have heard if you spring for the spiral head, you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

Re: Stationary Joiner Recommendation
I got a used old craftsman 6" for $100 on Craigslist that works well for me. It's really solid, not like new craftsman stuff. It's on a wooden stand and has a separately mounted motor with V-belt.

Re: Stationary Joiner Recommendation
Thanks for the recommendations. There was a good article on jointing and spiral cutters in last issue of Woodcraft.
