Snow shovels

Winter's coming soon, and it's time to think about snow shoveling. Who makes a good snow shovel now? They're all either plastic junk, plastic junk with a flimsy metal edge, metal about the same thickness as a Coke can, or have stupid bent handles. Who makes the "Cadillac" snow shovel? I'm thinking something made out of cast iron with a razor sharp edge would do the trick.

Those "cheap plastic" shovels with a straight wood handle are perfect, seems the fancy ones are just gimmicky. I'm doing a job for an old lady right now, went and borrowed an old steel shovel from the garage for a dustpan and could barely lift it

Sorry, I'm too new here to be jumping on the insult wagon but it sure looks like fun

Why not? As long as you're just poking fun, and put a smiley thing on the end so the other guy understands, it's okay. Some people would sorta feel left out if you didn't send a little jag every once in a while. If you're actually ticked off and insulting someone, that's where it crosses some kind of line.

I've got one of the bent handle ones
with a reinforced front edge, that I really
like for the heavy wet stuff.
It really does help the back, but I
played around with several before
I found the right combination of length and bend.
Below zero powder.... I still use the 50
year old steel straight handle one
that Dad bought.

Can't really find a good shovel anymore, you used to get those thick gauge ones that could be ground, now they all seem to be like you stated, crap, I buy the $20 ones on clearance at Wal Mart at the end of the season for $3.00 - $5.00 for the next year, I have my two ready to go.

Good snow shoveling story, at my house there's nowhere good to put the snow (lots of variances), so I've been tossing it in the street, it was entertaining to watch cars hit it and skid a little, anyhow last year someone called the cops and they came out and made me clean up the snow or get a ticket (good use of cops), he blocked two lanes of traffic, during rush hour so I could move the snow. I should add that I don't get along to well with the Village and I think they purposely plow snow into the driveway, they could straighten the blade when going by driveways, they do when they go by the Mayor's building on the next block. I spent the rest of the winter calling in all the same violations when I spotted them, we'll see how things go this winter.

I left mine in Canada 4 years ago...Go north, ask for Joe, it's in the back of his garage beside his old bicycle with the banana seat, in front of all the empties he hasn't returned to the beer store.

If it's not there, check inside his ice fishing hut.
