Small Scms
I made up my mind finally on a Bosch 5412L 12" SCMS but now I want to also purchase a smaller SCMS for everyday work that's easier to carry around, especially if the 12" is not needed.
I have been looking at the DeWalt DW712 8-1/2" Single-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw DW712 and the Makita LS0714 7-1/2" Four Pole Slide Compound Miter Saw LS0714 I would apprecaite your thoughts If you guys have any thoughts or experience with these smaller saws. I am leaning towards the DeWalt but wanted to check with you guys first before making my final decision. ![]()

Re: Small Scms
I want a mini one as well. But I dont want a slide. I want one I can use to cut 45 bevels on 2x2 pickets. I saw one at sears that might just do the trick. It uses a 7.25 blade like my circ. But if anyone knows of any other 7.25 or smaller miter saws let me know.

Re: Small Scms
I own a 10" Makita scms and a Dewalt regular mitre saw. Love the Dewalt, more accurate, durable and is just a better saw imo. I'm not a big fan of Dewalt's on any thing else, but they seem to make damn good saws. I have the jobsite table saw with rack-n-pinion fence as well and highly recommend it.

Re: Small Scms
pn70,
I too was tired of carrying the 10" SCMS to jobsites for a 1/2 day job. If you didn't already make your decision, I have the Makita and love it. I can carry it in one arm, hide it in quad cab, and cut 2 x 12's or 2x8 at a 45. |

Re: Small Scms
I use the lso714 currently for most of my work that I do... Practically all trim can be cut on this saw( even the biggest crown ) of course laying it down... It is so accurate, so light and cuts mint.... I traded up from the bosch on this saw and now to of my buddies are getting theres... It is hands down (imo) the best small scms on the market and you would not regret it if you bought it...

I have the Makita LS0714 and it has made my large Bosch redundant for most jobs. I used it today to install a front door and it's just so damn handy. Nice and light, laser is accurate and the dust collection actually works reasonably well. The only gripe I have with the saw is when making trench cuts it won't cut all the way to the edge due to the range of movement of the slide. I guess it's not problem, just use a 2 inch piece of wood as a chock but still it's an annoyance. Other than that, it's convenience, operation, weight and quality make it the best small saw out there bar none. Honestly, once you get it you won't touch your big Bosch unless you absolutely HAVE to. I barely use my bigger scms now. I will gladly part with the money for new blades on the little Makita just because it saves my back and is not a pig to manoeuvre through doors.
