Sidewinder Blade For Nails?

In my work, I have to saw up a lot of attic floor boards. This involves cutting down the length of both sides to saw the tongue off. The Sawzall works okay for that, and goes through the nails (often old cut nails) pretty well, but it is slower going than I want to tolerate. The 7-1/4" sidewinder absolutely flies at this task, but the blades don't last long hitting so many nails. Anyone know of a 7-1/4" blade I could use specially for this task; one that will hold up to nail embedded wood?

You can get a circular saw blade that can handle nails,The carbide tips are ground on a slightly backward sloping angle. It will tack a row of nails no problem but it's not meant for sheet steel or any thing like that.

Sounds like you need a demo blade. I just use old blades that are dull or missing a few teeth. If they warp or lose more teeth, so what. Just pull out another old one.

If you can find them, Amana makes
a nail cutting blade.
I only know of one place to buy 'em
in this town though.

I honestly didn't put much effort into looking for one, because I wasn't sure such a blade even existed. Now that I know they exist, I'll have to look harder. They sure would come in handy for me sometimes. (don't suppose they make them in 5-1/2" for the cordless? )

The 7¼" is an after thought!
The rest of the selection seems to run more
towards the 12-14" variety.
Fireman's gear don't cha know.

Yeah, well... I like to take up the floorboards so that they can be put back down again reasonably neatly. I don't need any fireman butchering tools. Although those demolition chains they put on their chainsaws are cool.

The old man that taught me most of what I know had some special "floorboard chisel" that he slipped between the boards and cut the tongues off, an inch or two at a time. Misery.

Look like these guys make a 6 1/2 and a 7 1/4,

http://www.amanatool.com/circular-sa...on-nc_800.html

DeWalt makes nail cutters too, but looks like only in 7 1/4,

Md, check out AceTool.com. They have the blades you are looking for. They are out of New York. I live in Northeastern Ohio, and they get my order to me within two days. You could probably get yours in one. Here is the link to the Amana blades through Ace Tool.

Re: Sidewinder Blade For Nails?

MD If your cutting up T&G you are likely cutting through the length of the nail since they are often not face nailed and nailed through the tongue. If they are hard cut flooring nails I dont think any blade will limit the damage to the blade or the wood. I could see the sparks flying with all that insulation around. Ever consider just slicing throught the boards alongside the joist and then nailing a 1x2 cleat along each side to resupport the pieces. Im sure you did but thats the easiest.

As a Roofer, we have to go through old thick wood embedded with nails, tar, etc...

Personally, these blades are golden for me:

DeWalt's Rock Carbide Blade at about $15.

Maybe just a too aggressive application but I used blades like that thinking they would be the greatest thing ever only to have it smoked before I finished using it.

Yeah, those black tipped Dewalt blades seem to handle nails really well.

Re: Sidewinder Blade For Nails?

I was at a Bosch Tools showcase today and saw a Bosch remodeling/demolition 7 1/4 saw blade that might be what you are looking for. I didn't even know that Bosch made these blades. Anyhow they cut a 4x4 post with a 3 inch lag bolt drilled into it. The blade cut the wood and the lag bolt longways. Sounds ike something you would be interested in.
