Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

Someone stole my SeeSnake, was going to buy another one but I see the big orange box has Milwaukee's version in a kit with a small impact driver for the same price as the Ridgid SeeSnake by itself.

Anyone have any experiance with the Milwaukee unit? Better or worse than Ridgids?

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

Mike, I own a couple of their mini drills and their cute but powerful sawsall. I have no clue how those little batteries put out so much power put somehow they manage. I was in a home creapo last week and was able to play with camera for about 20 minutes---It's a really fun toy! The cord is nice and flexible, the light is actually pretty bright and the zoom in feature works well. I stacked some display boxes up to make it nice and dark and then inserted the cord and was able to read the labels once I figured out which side was up. <---That's the only problem I can see is that in some applications you can't tell up from down.

I'm going to post an ad on craiglist for Colinospees (no clue on spelling) so I'll have an excuse to buy one.

I just bought the Milwaukee ($99 @ Amazon, link below), they have one that runs off the rechargeable batteries or off 4 AA batteries, the Milwaukee one has extensions available that will fit in the case it comes with (nice case), I don't know much about the Rigid camera other than it was a great idea, the difference is that the Milwaukee camera is digital the Rigid is not, supposedly a better picture with the digital.

Battery unit $99 at Amazon

Picture of camera, case and nosy dog that kept jumping in the picture (you'll see the picture is upside down as Doug said).

Mickey, what's you excuse for buying one (other than the price and the fact that they are cool)?

Apparently the Dog is a Tool Head as well.

Or Mickey has already used it for a Colonoscopy and Doggie was sniffin' at the "residue"!!!

I "needed" one, it's been on my list of things to get since Rigid came out with the See Snake, there has been a pile of times I could have used it (seeing what's in the wall, working on cars, getting model/ serial numbers), I have a little mirror on an retractable antenna I've used for years, time to retire it. I'll be using it this week, I have to run an outlet up to a new wine cooler and I need to find a stud bay that has room, it's in an area where all the ducts, plumbing and electric are already, then I'll be checking under vending machines (without having to get on my hands and knees) for lost change.

I don't know what the hell she was doing, I took 3 picture and she's in everyone of them, even the one I didn't think she was in, I put her in the other room but she ran back and got in the shot. It seems she always has to be where you don't want her, today she decided it would be okay to jump on my lap (she's 80 lbs.) while I was driving so she could stick her head out my window to bark at some dog.

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

i thought about buying this, but i found out extensions are 50 bucks each and you can make it 12' long. 3' pieces at a time.

it is neat to play with though. i thought it was over 200 bucks at HD though.

Milwaukee is the one I got due to the sharper screen image.
Has better LCD screen resolution rating

99 bucks is a good deal, i wouldn't use it all the time. no need for the lithium ion batteries

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

Is there any difference between the AA model and the 12 volt model besides the battery? Any performance differences that would make the 12 volt better? Also anyone know how long you can make the cable? I read the owners manual online and also read description of tool and couldn't find out how long you can make the cable by adding 3' sections. I am looking at getting the $99 AA model from amazon. Thanks

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

I had looked at the Milwaulkee but the head is to big for what I want it for. After reading this thread I see the camera head on the 31118 SeeSnake micro inspection camera is 17mm which would probably work. (Going through a 3/4" BSSP female hole which is around 24mm (15/16") The local HomoDepo does not have this camera for me to check out so I was wondering if anyone knew
1. Is 17mm the max diameter of the whole probe or is the fitting that attches the camera to the tube larger?
2. How is the resolution. Would I be able to see cracks and pits in aluminium?
3. Does anyone have the smaller optional 9.5mm head and what is the minimum hole size to insert the probe with the 9.5mm head on. IS the resolution anygood?
Cheers Jim

Hi Jim, We have the seesnake and like it fine... we have had to use it to trace electrical wire in walls and also to see what is in a wall before we drill into it... plumbing, electrical etc. for kitchen cabinet installations. Sorry, don't know the head size... we just drill a hole and stick it in and it shows us what we need. Good result for the Canadian price we pay.
Cheers Kathy

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

I've had the SeeSnake for maybe a year now, and got the Milwaukee one in November. Honestly, they're about the same for everything I use them for. I really have no preference. I think you'd be good to pick your choice on price alone on these.

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

Thanks for the feedback. If the quality is the same then I will probably go with the seesnake as it appears to have a small enough head for my purposes. I have had my hands on the miwaulkee and was satisfied with the image but the head was too big.
Now its time to go online and shop for best price/who will ship by USPS to Guam.
Cheers Jim

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

MD or anyone else...How do the lights compare on the two cameras? Is the Milwaukee light any better? I read a review that said the LEDs sometimes glare? I think i am going to get the Milwaukee based on price, you can't beat 99 bucks but just don't want to make the wrong purchase based on price. Any reason you purchased the Milwaukee when you already owned the ridgid? Thanks

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

my boss has both of them. They seem pretty much the same except that the milwaulkee has slightly better screen res and i think has an adjustment that the rigid doesn't. granted, i am sure there is more than 1 model for each brand.

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

Just got the Milwaukee 12v rechargeable camera last night. I really like it. I compared the Rigid to the Milwaukee for about an hour inside the Home Depot (I'm REALLY anal about my tool purchases). I liked the fact that the Milwaukee has adjustable brightness for the LED, a zoom feature and is digital. The Rigid only has an adjustment wheel to turn the unit on and adjust the brightness. Milwaukee really made their camera attractive by giving each feature it's own separate control button. Nice tool...decent price. But, I do have an issue that I hope someone can help me with:
The camera isn't oriented correctly...it is upside down and it is irritating as hell. Does anyone know how to adjust it? I just need to rotate it 180 degrees. I noticed that there is a tiny phillips head screw near the LED housing on the head. Could that be an adjustment screw? Anybody got a solution for me? Thanks...

Re: Ridgid SeeSnake Vs Milwaukee's Camera

I had a SeeSnake and discovered that the camera head was very fragile. Mine pulled off completely when trying to pull it out of a hole in a wall. That's expensive and I never replaced it. The Milwaukee camera head looks much more sturdy. That will be my next one.

I believe back when they first came out the heads contained more plastic and were prone to breakage. Both sizes of the newer camera heads I have are made mostly of aluminum and seem to be pretty durable. I would maybe check with Ridgid customer service, since I seem to remember that they were offering free replacement heads under warranty at one time.
If not, I just did a quick search found that ToolUp currently has the Ridgid 26663 17mm head on sale for $72.99. Not a huge savings, but not too bad either.
