Ridgid 3 1/4 Clipped Head Framing Gun

My company is dire need of a new framing gun, we have two ancient senco's one is in several pieces after being dropped off a roof ( or thrown because its junk) the other has a hair trigger

anyhow, the hd just started the 20% off all air tools sale so the ridgid is down to $231, is this gun worth buying or should we go for the paslode, sick of hand nailing for 4 months and cant seem to get the general to buy a new one. anyhow any feedback would be great

Re: Ridgid 3 1/4 Clipped Head Framing Gun

I have the paslode gun now, (and a $100 Campbell hausfield, for crap jobs) I have run at least 60 boxes through the paslode and only had 1 nail jamb. I hit another nail. One thing to consider. The bostich is cheaper and the nails are generally cheaper as well. I understand they are good guns too.

Re: Ridgid 3 1/4 Clipped Head Framing Gun

no worries, if it were my call it would be the paslode, however im not the general just the foreman. Ive been supplying far too many power tools for what im getting paid. if i were getting a tool allowance it wouldnt be an issue but i just burnt out a porter cable 18g working for this gc, he has guns but there the $30 ones which leave huge nail holes. finally got him to buy a decent hammer drill last week after he bought 3 $20 models which all burnt out by the 2nd time they came out of the van

Paslode has an outlet store on ebay, factory reconditioned F350-s around 179. Lowes & HD have a new for 249.
I bought a new 1 on ebay for 184.99

I love my Ridgid nailer - it works great for me. I am not sure on the clipped nailed version though - check your local codes, some places don't allow them

Re: Ridgid 3 1/4 Clipped Head Framing Gun

ahh cool, someone whos used the ridgid, i know all about paslodes and newer sencos, plus a couple hitachis. used em all. just looking to save a few

as for clipped head, clipped is all anyone carry's in my area. the full head is more of a high hurricane risk region thing isnt it? based on what ive read about the bostich nails which are rated for such

Re: Ridgid 3 1/4 Clipped Head Framing Gun

The only thing that you might look into - is where the nearest Ridgid repair center is. It may be easier to find another manufacturers repair center on some occasions which might lead you to buy another brand.

I think you are correct on the high wind requirement for the nails - as I recall the clip less nails pull out easier & some jurisdictions won't allow them.

I have been switching over to Ridgid now for about the last year & a half. The only issue I have found is with the router - I can't get all the nice little plates & risers for it like you can with Porter Cable. You can't beat the lifetime warranty either assuming there is a Service Center within X miles.

Me too! I've had mine for a while. Bought it in almost new condition from a pawn shop. It don't look so new anymore but it still works like a champ.

It must be a Colorado thing. Everybody I know around here uses the Hitachi. Best IMO too.

from what i understand, ridgid, milwaukee and ryobi are all the same company now just different lines, if so i have a milwaukee repair center literally 4 blocks from my house, as opposed to 15 minutes and bridge fare to get to makita and dewalt repair centers

I wouldn't touch a rigid for $230. You can get a Paslode, Hitachi, or Senco for that about the same...maybe a few bucks more. The rigids don't stand a chance against these pro's. Senco has a new line of framers out that have a $50 rebate until December.

Been usin a Rigid Full-head framer for over a year and really like it. I have heard a lot of good things about the MAX nailers, and when I buy my own that is the one that I am gonna get.

Have Ridgid and Hitachi full head nailers. Both are great, however I think the Hitachi wins out. Great power and rarely jams.

spend another $40.00 or so and buy the Hitachi NR83A. It's well balanced and damn near bullet proof.

And no one uses Duofast guns? My original, like 25 year old Duofast FH is still the champ for hard hitting. I use the Porter Cable guns now for everyday work...and they have never failed either.

When I first got my paslode gun. The guy working with me at the time dropped it 8' onto the concrete footing.. It was about 2 days old. Didn't break or crack the casing. In fact I almost couldn't even tell it was dropped. except for a slight scratch.
