Standard Phillips, Apex if you can find them.

I only buy dewalt bits in the 5 pack(I think it's five), they last the longest for what I use them for, then again...I'm not a drywall guy or framer.

I just bought VermontAmerican 15 pk that comes in the plastic TicTac box. I had picked up some Dewalts and in the last week I broke 3 of them...the last two I had on the same day! I'll see how these last.

Be glad you aint using GRK tork driven screws in composite... I can break 5-10 regular T-10 bits in a day. If I buy the GRK ones I usually break 2-3 a day.

I use Bosch's, I had on bad batch that broke pretty easy, but i think it was a fluke, because I have used the same bit for probably the last 6 months. they are cool, because they grip the screw really well. When i pick up someone elses driver, I end up wabbling the screw all over, because I am use to the grip of the Bosch

I'd prefer a softer bit that cammed out to the ones that break.

I like the dewalt as well. They seem to hold up in the impact driver the longest. I also tried the Bosch and snapped 5 in 10 minutes.

I snap bits no matter what brand they are. For a while, Bosch were unbreakable, then they broke. Dewalts were OK, then they broke. I'm on Irwin's right now...seem to be OK. Now, I just carry a lot of bits and don't get bent out of shape.

I have a feeling these bits are made in the same place with whatever mix of steel they have that day. Plus, impact drivers are tough on anything and no one is making dedicated impact bit tips yet.

Mcfeelys has some impact driver bits. Desinged for corless impacts.

Makes sense. Everything else they carry is great.

I have to get me some. I snapped a Philips-made bit, an Ice-Pro, and a Dewalt today.

Re: Recommend Some Brands Of #2 Phillips Bits

Most of the time I don't use impact to drive screws, I see little advantage to it. IME, busted off tips can be very difficult to remove and cause rust stains if left which is why I prefer the softer bits that cam out.

I recently retired an Apex that I have used for 20 yrs. God only knows how many screws that it has driven.

Teetorbilt, where do you get the apex bits? I have never heard of them.

I have a magnet in my trailer that I can use if I break off a tip in the screw. Works wonderfully.

Snapped bits come from a too hard a temper when the product is made. Shows a lack of quality control. Bent or deformed bits shows a lack of temper in the bit, too soft.

If you have a batch that is snapping, return them, they are defective. The Bosch are nice, its what we use when we can find them. Hitachi are also nice.

I use the cheap Vermont American because they are softer and dont snap. I hate when DeWalt bits brake which doesnt take much.

I buy bits and hole saws from South Deerfield Industry's eStore on eBay. They have Disston (good, old time brand) phillips bits in 100 packs for $9.99. I've had zero trouble with them. http://cgi.ebay.com/Disston-Phillips...QQcmdZViewItem
