Plate Joiners

my basemaent flooded and ruined my hand me down craftsman plate joiner. i am now doing some research on trying to find one that ii can get the best bang for my buck.craftsman and dewalts are cheaper than portar cable but i dont use one everyday so i hate to pay the extra money for one that will do the job as good as every other one would. any thoughts on this would really help. Re: Plate Joiners

I was not overly happy with my DeWalt. The depth adjustment jiggles its way out of adjustment easily. The saw itself does the job, the jigs and adjustments for angle seem to be okay, but personally if my own plate joiner got ruined, I'd look at another brand as I just was nto happy with this one.

Re: Plate Joiners

I did quite a bit of research when I bought mine.
I found the best one by far was the P-C 557.
The deal from Tool Crib with the 1000 free biscuits is about the best around.

I'm with you guys, - - I own both the Dewalt and the PC, - - I use the DeWalt for 'quick stuff' and the PC when I need the precision. If I could only have one it would be hands down the PC.

Re: Plate Joiners

I got the dewalt a few months ago based on a recommendation from a friend and I'm very unhappy with it. First, the kit was missing the torx driver, second, and most important, it is very hard to make a level cut. I think this is because the shoe plate sits about 1/16" lower than the bottom of the fence. This allows the the tool to "rock" when plunging into the work piece. It may be my technique, but I find this tool vey hard to use accurately. Anybody have similar experience?

Porter Cable is the better unit.

Re: Plate Joiners

My first product from PC was the plate jointer and I was impressed with the ease of use and accuracy. Went out and bought the PC Router shortly thereafter with the same impression.
