One Of The Best Tools![]() I'm suprised that I have never mentioned this gem, I have spent more hours with it than any other tool. FYI, this goes back to the 'best transition' subject that I posted. To pretty much complete that job, this is what you need.

Re: One Of The Best Tools
If you are talking about using it as a grinder instead of polishing you boat, I would agree. I reach for this tool quite a bit during a remodel.

Angle grinder I can see, but a polisher/buffer?
The angle grinder is one of those tools you need when you need and it definitely will save your skin in a pinch. It's definitely for rough work only. I think what is more important to always have in the truck is Fein Multimaster. You can cut in the most impossible places with that thing--surgically. |

Re: One Of The Best Tools
This model is one of the toughest tools ever built. I used them when building hydrofoils out of fiberglass, and later, cast and laminated epoxies. The workforce was not always topnotch and I had ONE gear failure in 12 yrs.
We used 8" softpads, 60 grit and worked to +/- .002 in. I have used it on mold plugs to .0005in. I would not recommend it as a grinder with hard disks as for metal work but it can work wonders for anything less than that.

Re: One Of The Best Tools
Thats my favorite tool for defelting decks after being restored. The 9227C has been bulletproof for me, the only thing I've had to do is clean the trigger lock a couple of times because the sawdust builds up and locking and unlocking is difficult. The variable speed is a nice feature.

Angle grinders are the tool I would take to a desert island if I could only take one!

Re: One Of The Best Tools
Had never seen the Fein tool before.. looked it up online and it looks pretty sweet. Lots of places I could use this one.
I only wish it was not 300bucks

Re: One Of The Best Tools
CG, check this out. http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...ductId=1831322 I just saved you over $100 and your getting a bulletproof tool. The original post was a Makita and I swear by them.
Add this pad http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/dis8056.html and you're ready for some serious work. You can roughout compound curves in a heartbeat, fair in boards and ,with the bonnets, compound and wax your boat. Notice how shiney mine is (not). If the weather is good enough to wash and wax, it's good enough to fish! ![]() The genset is in the cockpit because the O-Nonan bit the dust 3 days prior to the trip to the Bahamas and there was no time for repair or replacement. A new 4.0 Westerbeke now sits in it's place. We were not 'good neighbors' with a construction generator running in the cockpit but we were cool.
