Old Stanley Hinge Mortise Kit

Hey Guys...New to the forum, Hello!

In my business I dont do much in the way of door replacements and when I do it is usually prehung units, But being sort of an old tool snob I couldnt pass up this smokin deal on an old stanley "builders kit" which included the hinge mortise kit. This is very similar to the bosch unit sold today, but Im unsure how to use it exactly. Wondering if any of the guys on here have ever used one. (Its pretty old, think EARLY 50's) Let me know...Id love to hear your thought!

Re: Old Stanley Hinge Mortise Kit

if it is like the bosch there are two rods and 3 jigs and 1or2 top spacers

Im recalling this from memory so if any thing is off in my post help me out

on the side of the jigs are a series of holes with a pin these are for the hinge size

in the middle of the jig is a threaded knob on a lever this is for door thickness centerd is for 1 3/8' doors. the larger door sizes you flip the knob from the door to the jamb (you should play with the jig a few times to get the hang of it)

one of the three jigs has a cutoff end this one is for the top spacer there are numbers on the top spacer and this is for the number of inches down to the first hinge. the movible flat part of the spacer is so you have proper space between the door and top sill bend it down for more gap up for less but you have to make sure you bend it properly so it is consistant for both right and left hand doors

the "rods" have numbers and holes these give spacing for the hinges based on the topspacer choice and (hinge size ?) and door length.

hope this helps
