Old Compressor

My Makita 3 gal 120v hot dog compressor is tripping the breaker in my costomers homes lately. When I fill up the tank at start it does fine, but when it kicks in to refill it trips. Have not noticed it ever doing this before, it is about 10 years old. Like I said, it still works, but it trips breakers at refill.

Re: Old Compressor

Does this compressor have start capacitors on it? If so and running on extention cord, it may need the cap changed out. It needs more ump! when on an extention cord and trying to refill with a partial tank and the pressure associated with that. If no cap's on it (I would guess may not have), I would check that the cord is heavy enough to and the connections at the terminals are still tight on the cord and the start switch on the compressor. No charring showing at the terminals?

Re: Old Compressor

i know this sounds rude but buy a new one

MAC700

you could spend 1-4 hours fixing it or just go new. you got 10 years out of it sell it for $20 at a yard sale and move on.

Re: Old Compressor

Ya, no ext. cord. I was just wondering why its all of a sudden tripping breakers on refill. I guess I'll just get a new one. Thanx

Re: Old Compressor

Is there anything else on this circuit? That is the general problem I run into. FYI - the compressor requires more power at refilling - due to it has to start out working harder as there is already compressed air in the tank. However, if you need an excuse to get a new compressor, just go for it.
