New Toy From Craiglist
I just picked up this for $50 from craiglist. Its in great shape, only needs a new table. I put the Freud blade on along with two Freud blade stabilizers. I got most of the rust of the height column and coated all the moving parts in white lithium grease. Some time next week I'll get around to making up a table, I'm thinking MDO/MDF but if anyone has any good suggestions that would be great. I've had the Dewalt RAS on my want list for quite sometime, I'm happy I finally got one.

Nice one mate. A good buy that's for sure. I am guessing there will be more cheap buys on the horizon as people try dig themselves out of debt and part with tools they don't use much anymore.

Re: New Toy From Craiglist
Go cast iron!! Congrats on your acquisition! Have two DeWAlts RAS's, 12" and 9". Use the smaller one only for dado's for cabinetry, quick and precise. For a table, recommend two layers of 3/4 MDF glued together with a sacrificial top of 1/4 ply, held down with rubber cement and brass brads. Found this recommendation from a couple revered sources in the woodworking world and beefed it up. Works great. Leave a 3/16th gap between ply and fence so the stock you are cutting can contact fence cleanly without sawdust causing an inaccurate cut.
Lots of torque on this saw, anti kickpack pawl on ripcuts a Must! |

Re: New Toy From Craiglist
Sweet deal Drew!
I acquired a used Craftsman radial arm a few years back that also had some table issues. Used it a while like it was until it just started getting on my nerves. when I finally put the new one on it, I incorporated a small drawer on the right front for pencils and such. Other than getting filled up with sawdust when its not shut all the way its handy as a pocket on a shirt. |

Guys Retiring, Bad Economy, overall price Deflation
New Tools seem over-priced and bad-quality compared to an old tool which is indestructible and doesn't have any computer chips in it so it's easy to fix. I wish I had the space to put the stuff I see on CL. It's going for a song. |
