Re: The New SawStop Contractor Saw In Action
This looks like a great saw, both the contractor and cabinet models. I've been eying it for about 2 years now, well the cabinet version. If anyone has this saw or knows someone that does (either cabinet or contractor models), has this saw helped lower some of their insurance premium costs? A regular table saw has the potential to create huge liability so if an insurance company is taking each major tool you use into consideration, then I figure it can have a significant impact on your insurance costs. Investing in this technology would hopefully lower those costs. However I'm not an insurance agent and am not sure exactly what they take into consideration when figuring out your premium. If anyone has any thoughts, please share.

I AM CORRECT and DID see it about three years ago. The Smartest Stuff: Breakthrough Product Awards 2006 Published in the November 2006 issue. http://www.popularmechanics.com/scie...age=2&series=1 ![]() The Contractor's Saw (about $1000) is a full-on workhorse. But what matters most is that a sensor can detect a finger contacting the moving blade. The saw then stops in 3 to 5 milliseconds — reducing a probable amputation to a forgettable cut. . |

Re: The New SawStop Contractor Saw In Action
that is too cool. I had some helpers that used to work for me that wished this was out sooner.

Re: The New SawStop Contractor Saw In Action
I have a little story about this saw.
I saw this saw demonstrated on a tv show (can't remember which one though) last July. I thought of how great it was. Then less than a week later after seeing that saw in action, I was using my craftsman table saw on the job. I was cutting very small pieces of wood and had my fingers close to the blade. Stupid me, I should have been using another piece of wood on the side to push it through. After successfully cutting about 2 or 3 of these pieces, the last piece jumped forward (I think) and my left thumb hit the blade. Thankfully I didn't lose the thumb but I needed a skin graft to fix the deep gash in my thumb. I always feel like I was jinxed by seeing that nifty saw. LOL. Or maybe it was just a reminder of how great that new saw is. |
