The Nanos are here!

I see the new Dewalt 18volt Nano batteries are finally hitting the market.

$140 a battery

I won't be replacing my old ones too soon at those prices!

A battery that has a life that is twice as long as the normal Nicads but costs 3 times as much??????????? How does that math work for you?

i saw them a week or so ago at my local supply house, they wont work in the radios or the small little vacs i think, but they do work with the drills you might have. i dont' have any dewalt drills at all, but i do have a new sawsall cordless, and a cordless circ saw of theirs, that's about it for cordless tools dewalt. it's not three times the cost, at least not here. i can get two yellow top xrp batteries for 119 plus tax at HD or even my local yard. that's 60 bucks a battery roughly. i think they want people to go buy the new drills with these batteries because you'll spend more. and you wont think about replacement of the actual battery until later on. then you are stuck.
i think i spent 160 on two makita lithium ion batteries, expensive but not anymore than i was spending for non lith ion milwaukee 18 v, which kept letting me down.

I hardly ever have bought rechargeable batteries by themselves. This week end Home Depot or Lowes, I forget which one, was selling an 18volt drill with a case, a charger and 2 18vt batteries for $99.00. That's the way I have always bought my batteries.

I should have bought one, but I said, nope the Nanos are coming so I don't want to accumilate any more 18 volt nicads. Had I know they were going to be 140 bucks apiece I would have bought that drill kit just for the batteries.

Wait a bit, they will come down in price. If I recall, the Makita LXT batteries were also expensive when they came out too.

Thanks for posting this, I've been meaning to buy some tools in order to get the batteries. Just went to the orange box:

Combo kit Cordless circular saw, drill, charger and TWO batteries $149

Open box Sawsall with a charger and TWO batteries, all of the sealed boxed had one battery. Got 15% off because the box was opened (not even used).

Total purchase with tax $301, if the batteries are worth $50 (?) then I really only paid $101 for the three tools and the chargers.

Almost ALL of my dewalt power tools came from the return rack at Home Depot. I just got an 18v impact with two batteries and a charger brand new in the case for $100 cause the case had been opened and returned.

Sweet!

I think it's going to be a while before I see a nano in my trailer. In my crystal ball I see a whole lot of XRPs being had for bargain prices as they switch over to the Nanos. It's going to be one of those things where, Yes I'd sure like to have the Nanos, but when you can keep getting super deals on the XRPs it won't make any sense.

I think you are looking at the XRPs not the Nanos. I still see the Nano's there for $140.00 each.

The model number was the same as the model number from Dewalt's site.

do the nanos work with xrp tools, I dont have any dewalt, all milwaukee, and the l-ions retrofit with all 18v tools. I don't know if this will help you or not, but 3 weeks ago I stumbled across a batt recall memo on milwaukees website, promptly collected 12 batts I had lying around that all had corresponding SN's and walked out of a service center with 12 new batteries, looks like dewalt has same recall http://www.dewalt.com/us/articles/pr...ease.asp?ID=19

anyone have one of these, I WANT ONE! http://www.dewalt.com/us/security/mobilelock/

???

Bone, the nanos are supposed to be backward compatible. I was under the impression they were backward compatible with every 18vt Dewalt cordless tool, but recently I saw something that said something about a couple of tools that they weren't with.

Toolking is notorious for shady stuff like that, running a special on something and upcharging when you click the featured item, one of the reasons I won't buy anything from them.

Weird.

Tool King is a local Denver company. They actually have stores here. I've bought thousands and thousands of dollars of tools from them at the store. I own just about every cordless dewalt tool they make in 18vt, all of them are reconditioned from Tool King bought dirt cheap. I have only had two problems so far in about 5 years or so with things I bought from them, both were cordless right angle drills, I bought 2 of them at the same time and the chucks stripped on the first use with both of them, but they were fixed under Dewalts warranty. We also have a local Dewalt factory repair shop here. So tool wise I've done very well with them, but I've actually never bought anything from their website.

My boss used to buy Dewalt stuff from them online, until we came to the conclusion that we are spending too much on tools that can't take the abuse our guys give them, myself included, and sat down with the Hilti rep and made the switch to Hilti tools, complete with the repair agreement and the GPS tool lock service. Now when something gets broke, one phone call has it picked up that afternoon, and returned within a couple days.

How large do you have to be to have a program like that?

Edit: I mean as far as company size, I could care less about your figure Spi

LOL!

We are a small shop, 7 guys, three company trucks. We were buying fasteners and anchors from Hilti anyway, it made sense to consolidate our sources and gain superior service in return. I can call the Hilti rep in the afternoon and get the product delivered before noon the next day, to the shop or the job.

I had bad luck with many XRP batteries. I quit buying into the Dewalt game of batteries. The tools were ok but not great. I wouldn't want to upgrade to Nano. Millwaukee and Makita have had Lithium for years and they are cheaper.

For the price of Hilti I could have a toolbox full of good tools that last just as long and work just as fast. Hilti makes great tools but not worth the extra price that they cost.
