Re: Mower Problems

Is the filter clean?
Have you just taken it out of winter storage?
Changed the spark plug lately?
Is the gas fresh?
Is it 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

Re: Mower Problems

If it starts and dies, you most likely have a fuel problem. My first guess is that the float valve needle is stuck to the seat.

Re: Mower Problems

really need more info... what kind, size mtr and all, but,

how did u prime?

if it starts and then gives up, there is junk in the carb that needs to be cleaned out that is blocking a jet.
any prime system overcomes function of jetting with a big slosh,
just for the cold start.

soon as that fuel burns, ur back to getting nothing.

usually gotta pull the carb completely off and blow out passages w compressed air and clean gunk out of float bowl if it uses one.

there are briggs motors out there with bowl inside tank kinda like a little teaspoon in there... with a pickup tube going into it.
if its dry, or gunky, will start with prime, and maybe choke, but won't run...

Re: Mower Problems

I change the air cleaner, plug and replace the old gas every year. I guess its the carb. Its 9 seasons old. Any suggestions on a new mower? I have a smaller yard. The mower that died was a 6 hp 22 inch. BTW that old gas thing used to get me. Im on to that. I always change the gas.

I've seen that happen before- clean and rebuild the carb and it should be fine

Good stuff.... Try taking the filter off, and make sure you have fresh gas in it. If you need to take the old gas out , don't lean the mower to the filter side. Any way fresh gas, new filter and plug should get it going. After it starts leave it running with the fresh gas , as it will help clean it out.

Go and buy some stable and treat all your gas that you have for your lawn equipment unless you know you will be burning it up soon.

I use an Ariens 21 with the swivle wheels that can be locked out. Has a brigs intek. Mulches, bags , side discharge . They were going for about 5 hun when I bought mine. The hondas are nice with the blade break and double blades. They willl run you much more jing , but are real nice mowers and they have models with the swivle wheels as well.
