Mitre Saw

Looking for reccomendations for a lighweight powered mitre saw. I do alot of small trim jobs but most are too small to be using a hand saw and mitre box.

I have a 12" Dewalt but its too freaking heavy to be hauling around for small jobs.

Re: Mitre Saw

the 7 1/2" makita with the compound slide sounds about perfect. It's less than 30 lbs, really compact, and can still cut a 2x12

Re: Mitre Saw

I have used makitas they are nice. I was thinking smaller as in a non slider and a compund would be easier to carry inside finished homes that I work in. The largest trim I would most likely be using will be 4.5"

I have the 10" Makita and it is easy to lift and carry around, but the 7" is even easier, or so I hear. The quality of the cuts on my Makita is outstanding.

I own the lightweight 7.5" makita, I work on HW floors, mouldings, base/trim - it works great for 99% of the jobs I do. I buy the Diablo 5 pack of 24 or 40 tooth 7.25" blades which work awesome in the saw - the 40T mak blade that came with the saw I sharpen and keep it for intricate cuts. Just the savings on blades alone has paid for the saw in 1 year over my 12" compound. I recommend this saw 100%.

I think this will be my next saw,the 7.5 Makita. Under 30lbs. I'll keep my DeWalt in the shop as a backup. I put those Diablo blades in my table saw, nice thin cut and great on the job site. No problems so far doing this.

A friend of mine got one this year. This is a very small saw that can do everything you need. Dual Bevel and all. I use the 10" Makita slider for all my work because it's fairly easy to move around. This thing is very nice too.

Re: Mitre Saw

I've noticed that Hitachi has the most accurate pivot system out there. I've bought a bunch of c.mitre saws, my old Hitachi still cuts the straightest. 12 years and not one curve!

Re: Mitre Saw

I have one of these. They go on sale for 1/2 price once in a while. Keep in mind that I am in Canada, but heck, I am sure there is an exact copy in America as well. Retailers just import them from China and slap a sticker on them. Throw it around until it breaks.
