Re: Milwaukee Compound Slide Miter Saw

Got 2 12" Milwaukee SCMS on Rigid stands. The slide is as smooth as silk compared to the Dewalt. Cutting capacity is the same as Dewalt- except if you need to cut over 39 degree miter on the right side of the saw ( if the piece is over 5 1/2" tall ) you have to first cut the piece to within 1" of your finished size. For some reason it seems Dewalt has lowered the rpm's of the motor, so it doesn't seem to cut as smooth as the older models.

Milaukee will cut bedded crown to 8 1/4" and base standing up @ 6 1/2", * see above note.

Heard that the Rigid 12" SCMS has the largest capacity - but I haven't used / looked at one yet.

Also, I use a 12" 96 tooth Freud blade w/ 5 degrees negative hook angle.

Re: Milwaukee Compound Slide Miter Saw

the Milwaukee 12" scms has the 1/10th deg. electronic readout, with a micro-adjusting feature. The dust collection system actually works! and the electronic motor control- no slowing down! this saw is on my "want" list, gonna sell my 12" bosch and really old 10" makita.
they are selling for (list) $679 I am waiting for spring, most of the tool shops hold sales then.

If that was meant for me, I'm sorry you feel that way.

What I was trying to say - IN PLAIN STRAIGHT FORWARD SPEAKING - is that saw for $200 is a steal especially since you have seen some good reviews about it in this forum.:thumbup :

One sweet thing on the Bosch is that you down have to reach around the back side of the saw to bevel it.

Kinda touchy for a "trim carpenter"

You blow up over little comments like that on the site too? Or did you forget to drink your cranberry juice with dinner.

I personally am unimpressed with the new milwaukee saw. But at 200 i would have made sure it actually worked and snapped it up in no time. Besides the kapex it is the most expensive miter saw on the market. That's like passing up a kapex selling for $400.

ya that was actually the feature that convinced me to buy the bosch originally. Its a good saw mind you, but I find that I want a more accurate mitre scale, and the bosch scale is "rough". In all fairness though I don't think that bosch had finishers in mind when they built this saw, figured that due to the markings on the scale - who knows? it's been great but what the heck, someone has built a saw (milwaukee) that's a bit better, so I'll try it out. I'm sure that in a couple years some other tool company will improve on even this Its one of the perks of being a carpenter- no need to justify to my dear wife why I HAVE to have that new gadget! LOL

Mac!!

Re: Milwaukee Compound Slide Miter Saw

there are a few things Bosch could do to make their sliders better....One, improve the miter scale, while I don't have a problem with it some people do. Two move the belt housing up higher, or switch to the vertical motor like the older Delta saw and cut out the back of the blade housing to allow much higher nested and against fence capacities. Those are my two biggest things.....

Re: Milwaukee Compound Slide Miter Saw

I just set the scale on my Bosch so that the pointer for the scale hits the either side of the angle marks. Works great for me, really like that saw, cant wait for it to die and get a Kapex.

No crap, Just buy the Damn saw allready that is CHEAP.

The miter scale is what steers me away from the bosch also. Alongside the fact that i dont like that you cant work the trigger and hold the guard up at the same time.

+1 about setting the pointer to one side. I have mine to the left...just like a usally throw my marks to the left of the line in framing...

Re: Milwaukee Compound Slide Miter Saw

i originally bought a bosch and took it back because of the miter scale and the crappy laser (and the electric brake was going out after two houses).
Switched to a hitachi and love them. Miter and Bevel scales are way more accurate and the laser shooting from behind is a huge help for base and casing.

I dont think the upfront controls are all that necessary...besides the one on the kapex is the way to go. It took the turn knob idea off the 12" hitachi and put it in front like the bosch.
