I have to agree here.

The newer Ridgid came free when I bought the Milwaukee. It is a total POS out of the box. However, since it was free and I don't want to buy new brackets for my trac rac (which houses the Bosch 4410l) I think I will build ply wings (ala Gary katz) which sit atop the stupid rollers.

I second that! Although quite heavy, and one of mine holds a 12 year old bosch slide (HEAVY!!) they are easily maneuverable. I can even load mine into and out of my van by myself. I also like the fact that you can store the attached saw standing on end. Such a space saver. I bought both of mine for $99 each and hope to find a new one soon to hold the new Milwaukee.

Re: Milwalkee 12" Sliding Miter Saw On Clearance!!

I bought the 12" milwaukee last year, because it has the 1/10" degree digital readout. I agree that the fence's do not slide, that sucks. I did a little bit of work with a grinder so that they now slide theystill are not as sweet as the old 12" bosch that I had, but it's scale was too crude to do finish work.

I also liked those little slide out supports that the bosch had. I did ask the Milwaukee rep about these things, and apparently those features are patented, and Milwaukee does not want to pay royalties to use these features.

The msuv stand works pretty good for my purpose, folds down for storage, and its easy to roll around the job site. Other than that I think it needs a major re-design, its wobbly, set screws are poor, the rollers are ??? well they are very difficult to get level - I don't even try now.

there's compromise in everything I guess!

I am dreaming that the Festool Kapex will one day come out with the digital readout I know that it has a little angle finder thingy, but I am not convinced that its long enough to be accurate. It might be! but at $1785 I want no surprises.

Re: Milwalkee 12" Sliding Miter Saw On Clearance!!

I also am waiting for the kapex to work out the kinks in the saw before i drop 1300+ here in the US, i dont like digital read outs on my saws as i travel often with them they tend to need calabration often! Im not building to NASA tolerancesnd

But you see the trend is going towards 10" saws with 12" capacity!! Im really enjoying my new makita ls1016!! every time i squeaze the trigger i cant help but smile

Warners probably on his 4th kapex by now so im still waiting to here his follow up review after a few months of bounceing the kapex saw around?

I just use a rubber mallet to adjust it.

I still can't believe how light it is, soooo easy to move around.

They did that to reduce shipping costs when sending out replacement saws.

At least they are willing to keep customers happy.

Try getting milwaukee to do anything about a problem.

I had my brand new Milwaukee wormdrive break within 40 days.

Ottawa Fastner Supply (where I bought it) refused to replace it and said they would send it out for repair, 3 weeks later I got it back. I then called and complained about the quality of repair to TTI...in 20 minutes the rep for our area called me back and appologized up and down, he then offered to have a new saw shipped to any milwaukee dealer (which there is a million of).

I said OFS is fine, 30 minutes after that OFS calls me and has a brand new saw ready for pick-up.

OFS dicked me around at first but Milwaukee provided me an excellent level of service. I don't see how Festool could top that.

Warner, you think after a certain amount of returns on your saw, they,ll just refund your money and tell you to keep it even change the festool hotline #

did you return it or are you gonna keep adjusting the laser ?

Festool would provide service that is just as good as what you described. They would charge you $1000 more for the saw though.

Re: Milwalkee 12" Sliding Miter Saw On Clearance!!

The closest Festool retailer is about an hour from my house (all highway driving too), Hilti is 15 minutes, most other major tool stores are within 15-30 min. Hilti has by far provided me the best service, last repair they courriered me a new drill out of warrenty within 2 days and didn't charge me a penny. And when I'm there I stock up on fastners too.

I'm sure Festool's service and support is exceptional but not having a local retailer/service centre I think I would loose alot of the "value added" cost...Plus being in Canada you get scewed.

As a side note I can't get enough of these TANOS systainers.

In all reality they shouldn't have exchanged my first one.

After riding around in my trailer or the back of the burban and a couple adjustments, the right laser has seated.

I think it has something to do with the springs stiffness.

It's been fine now for a while. I finally got both lasers adjusted to the way I cut.

I sent my ras115 in for repair twice, they fixed one thing and then sent me a new one.

You will not find a refurbished Festool for sale. They don't do that.

Re: Milwalkee 12" Sliding Miter Saw On Clearance!!

well... i gave the milwalkee a good break in today, man is it heavy!!! it should have never been a 700 dollar saw to begin with, spending 300 was actually a fair value. it cut great and came perfectly calibrated which is a plus. it has a much joltier start than my dewalt, and no laser. being new, it is in much better condition than my dewalt which needs servicing so i guess i'll ride it out for a few more weeks.

warner... you could probably appreciate the fact that i had the CT22 hooked up to the back of it!!

Re: Milwalkee 12" Sliding Miter Saw On Clearance!!

maybe 85% was removed? hard to say... it was most of it, but no way all of it cause there was a dusting on the floor behind where i was set up. it's no festool, but it's a million times better than my dewalt... the dust port is just decoration on the dewalt!!

I am very impressed with the collection when no extractor is used. My best guess would be %75, which is better than any saw with no vac attached.

No here is the problem. I cannot seem to find the vac adapter Milwaukee keeps saying they are going to release. The output is a wide rectangle shape which makes a duct tape fabrication pretty worthless.

I just remembered another dislike- no clamp. I wish all saws had clamps similar to the kapex, or at a minimum, Bosch.
