Re: Means Of Organization

Well lads, after dumping an entire rummermaid bin of terminators onto the floor in the back of my SUV while transfering goods between my van I threw a small tantrum and ordered a couple systainers and a sortainer from festool junkie. Hopefully they are the answer I'm lookin' for!

Re: Means Of Organization

Start off with what kind of vehicle you have, and do you have a garage to park in? I park outside so I use a pick up with my valuable tools locked up inside a diamond plate box for security. I would not use a van or an SUV because they can be broken into too easily. If I have time to clean it out every week then it's not bad. It's only when I neglect to clean it I get disorganized and start forgetting where everything is.

Re: Means Of Organization

Ken, I recently gave up my garage space so both vehicles sleep outside, I'm going to invest in a decent security system for that. I'm shocked I've went so many years without a break-in, I live in a rather close-knit area and most people are very respectful (and the houses are practically built ontop eachother).

I have lock-boxes, but the issues is I'm constantly transfering tools and knick-nack between my SUV (for small calls and downtown work) to my cube van and vice versa.

I agree with staying ontop of organization helps alot....but when you don't have a good organizational foundation it just feels like your spinning your wheels when cleaning out the truck.

Re: Means Of Organization

Will do! If I like em I'l imeediatly order another few.

I got both the systainer with the little compartments and a sortainer so that I can test em out to see 'how' they both work for sorting out my bits.

Warner you have one of their vacumes right? If I understand the pictures properly do the systainers clip ontop the vacume so that the vacume can double as a wheeled base?

Re: Means Of Organization

Sure do!!

You can also buy a roll board for them. About 75 bucks but, super nice non-marring locking casters:

Oh heck thats sexy!

10 Minutes ago I just broke the news that I dropped 3 bills on 3 plastic boxes to the misses and it didn't go over well until I told her it was in the name of organization.

I think I may have to get the vacume now too....but its such a better deal to get the vacume with the saw....hmmm....this isn't going to end well!

Definitly ordered one too.

The more I think about it the more I think it is going to by better then the sortainer since I can remove the inserts and I can see every thing at onece to take quick stock....on the flip side separate drawrs prevents mixing the different type of goods....Ahh well see how it goes....I hope they show up soon I'm getting impatient!

Not a bad idea actually...She probably has more money in nail polish and foot cream then I do in tools!

The lid liner on the Sys 1 box presses onto the tops of the little bins. You can fill it up, turn it upside down and shake it, open it back up and everything is in its place.

These Festool things look nice, but I'm still a little confused as to how they all get put together. I might find a store that sells them and take a look.

Answered alot of my questions, great link Craig thanks.

I only wish I had a local store that I could play with this stuff in, the more I look at the vacume the more I want it...and the more I see the cost savings with the vacume coupled with a TS55 the more I want them both, then I have to dream up a reason for buying a 6th circular saw.

"But Kristi this ones slides along a rail!"

Re: Means Of Organization

Unfortunatly Festool will not let an american dealer ship to Canada, Tim at FJ refered me to ultimatetools.ca but as per usual its far more expensive in Canada then in the US.

Now I have to decide to bite the bullet and pay the "canadian pound me in the arse for the same tools tax" or drive to the US...and if I'm gonna drive to the US should I make it a REALLY big order....hmmm

Oh yeah, they dont let tools cross country boarders for shipping.

It's one of their things. I say if you have a US dealer 45 minutes away, call them first, maybe have them order some stuff in, and then go pick it up, sounds like a good road trip.

Re: Means Of Organization

I'm crunching the numbers; in Canada all prices are a SOLID 20-25% higher no question. I understand that I live in a colder part of the world and therefor am a glutton for punishment and enjoy being kicked in the arse.

With a 1K purchase i'm out 200 bucks, but when I factor in driving to the states, toll bridge, pick-up fee, border tariffs (and I have a business import number for the US, but I assume the Festool stuff is made in Germany and I don't know what the policy is for tariffs of German goods). Price in the time and hassle I think I may as well bite the bullet and buy it in Canada.

Warner I hate to keep bothering you for festool related information but would you drop 475 bucks on the MINI vacume to use it as a rollercart/vacume, or would you go for the big guy(CT22/33), or just continue to use my ridgid and get the caster base? Keeping in mind I have no tools that accept dust extracters outside my workshop (at this point) and space is very important when I fill my little SUV with tools for jobs in town.

Thanks!

Re: Means Of Organization

On the CT vs. the mini/midi, it depends on what you want to do with the extractor.

If you every think you might get a saw or something else that makes lots of chips, the mini/midi fill up kind of fast, however, they are also coming out with HEPA filters for the mini/midi. My next extractor will probably be a midi, I have the 22.

If you just want it as a general clean up vac, probably stick with the ridgid and just get the roll board.

Canada's duty's/tarrifs is what I believe is the culprit of the price difference.
