Making A Higher Fence For Makita SCMS

Just picked up the Makita 10" SCMS. Love it so far, (returned the PC I bought last week).

I have little beef with the right fence though. It's only an inch high, and if I build it up with a 3/4" piece of hardwood, I'm blocking the angle pointer, (if you own this saw you know what I mean). Kind of a bad design. Maybe I can use a 1/2" piece. I think they make a fence kit, but apparenty it's mega expensive.
