Leather Vs Kevlar Vs Other Gloves

I bought a few pairs of gloves made with Kevlar and dynema material a couple of months ago and have really liked them so far – I’m still on my first pair (of the dynema gloves) though its visually really worn it hasn’t ripped yet. I was just wondering if many others prefer “high performance” gloves or regular cotton or leather ones? What do you use when you actually wear them?

I seldom wear gloves in temperate weather unless I'm doing some really nasty work. For cold weather, my brother in law the train mechanic scarfs a couple pairs of these up from work for me every year.

I usually use Cahartt heavy leather gloves for really rough work. They are cheap, good quality, and fit my hands right.
I've got some lighter weight leather gloves and Atlas gloves for lighter duty stuff where you still want gloves (cut protection when working with metal is one use)
For cold weather, in order from cold to coldest, atlas thermals, Golden Eagle thinsulite lined, cheap Ace brand lined leather, chopper mits with wool or fleece mittens. I'll frequently use the atlas gloves as liners when I go to heavier gloves.

I dont know why but i seem to be able to burn holes in gloves in days for some reason. In 2 years i have had maybe 5-6 pairs but the best ones i have had are my current ones.

Can't do what I do with gloves on, but if its just roughing in wire I have a pair of Hatch Specialists.

Don't really need gloves in Georgia, at least not due to weather. However, when we installed modular block walls, I bought the rubber coated cotton gloves from Gempler's. After trying many different types and style gloves these lasted the longest by far working with the block.

I was amazed at how easy they were to work with. You could easily pickup a coin off a countertop with them on. Cost was about $4/pair but they would put them on sale once a year for $1.5 and I would buy cases of em.

i used to say i can't wear gloves,but after i forced myself to wear them for i while,i don't want to pick anything up without them

I used to hate wearing gloves as well. Same situation as Tom.

The best gloves I've tried so far are the CLC ones, but still not satisfied with how long they last. I keep my eyes open for other gloves, but not much to choose from at any of the places I shop.

I will admit that after about four weeks of grinding on that tuckpointing job, my hands were getting pretty scabby from the inevitable occasional nick with the diamond blade. For the next two weeks, I wore those cheap brown gloves, and my hands healed up.

It was quite an eye-opener seeing how tattered a pair of those gloves would get in a single day.

They advertise one that is waterproof now.

Perhaps next time I'll get a pair of Mechanix or Ironclad - I just didn't want to spend 30 bucks on them and then throw them away after they get dirty. Besides the cheap leather and cotton gloves, I have used Ansell hyflex 11-501 and MCR safety 9687 - its unbelievable how strong they are considering that they are really thin.
I started wearing gloves for any kind of work after having a job in a warehouse a few years ago - a simple pair of gloves really made my girlfriend happier she mentioned something about not liking sandpaper
