Laser guide on Circular saw
Are they a gimick, is it worthwhile.
Was looking at a new Makita but even that does not have the new laser guides.
They only seems to be on cheaper homeowner saws.

I always felt like they were gimmicky. But It could just be that Im so used to cutting without them that I dont want to change over.

ummm
have used the hitachi 10 scms and the laser is bang on accurate..... now i use the bosch saw and never did get around to using the arbor laser.... it does help to have a laser for some stuff, but i find it best and most acurate to rely on ur own eye for the precision..

On a circ? What a joke. Get a worm drive and once you get used to it you can rip a piece of plywood and be as accurate as your line is.

I've used some saws with the laser lines, and I have always found them to be inaccurate because the laser line is so wide, often wider than the blade, and always wider than my mark, so how do you line up your mark with the blade? It's easier and faster in my opinion to mark a line, set the blade to the waste side of the line and follow it.

Ya I have one on my Skil for when I cut angle iron. I find it handy for illuminating the area as opposed to making an accurate cut.

The 19.2V craftsman I have works nice, I rarely use it but it works good for wanting to cut something like plywood. You measure both sides and put a mark on each end. Then put the blade on one mark fire up the laser and put the laser line on the mark on the other side and just keep the laser on the mark until you get across. this saw has a nice narrow beam but its about worthless if its not in the shade.
