Impact Tools Question

I need to drive some 3/8 lag screws in some tight spots and the only way to do it will be with one of those universal joints I think they are called. You know the little thingy that is jointed so you can hold the impact driver at an angle to the work.

I buy the impact tool rated sockets, but today I went looking for an impact rated universal joint and couldn't find any. Is there such a thing? I can't imagine with the torque issues of my impact driver hammering away at this little joint that the normal ones would last very long.

Yes, they are more of a swiveling joint rather than what's pictured, have several, get em at sears in the automotive wrench/socket section, or harbor freight dirt cheap, never had one fail and i drive alot of 1/2"-5/8" stuff especially for getting up in a joist bay from the basement to nut and washer a ledger on a cantilevered bumpout

Re: Impact Tools Question

mike i have used the ones you have pictured with my impact. they don't last a very long time, but they do hold up more suprizingly than i thought. i finally found one that was impact specific like above. the one you have will work in a pinch.

Re: Impact Tools Question

Chris, I was at Sears today looking for exactly what you pictured. I couldn't find anything like it. They seemed to have changed the stock on me, I used to be able to purchase individual impact rated sockets, now all they were selling were impact rated sockets in sets and there were no accessories. Might have to try another Sears.

I appreciate the offer, but even that wouldn't get me in there. But thanks.

Yeah, I have one of those. I need to drive about 10 of them and I'm betting it wouldn't make it through all of them.

A dime! I knew the exchange rate down in Mississippi was good, but not that good!

Re: Impact Tools Question

Mike,

Northern Tool has a set for $22 and some change if your interested. I'd post the link but I don't have enough posts yet. Don't know if you have a store near you, but their online service has been good to me.

These guys will ship a single screwdriver if you want and are usually pretty fast. I've had good luck with their stuff. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg...mId=1611584490.

Re: Impact Tools Question

Mike, so long as you dont buy a tiwanese universal joint and stick with a craftsman, snap on, mac, matco, husky, etc...those little 3/8 lags wont phase it. We've had my 3/4" 650ftlb impact with reducers to use both 1/2" and 3/8" sockets and they held up just fine on crusty bolts/nuts that my macho 1/2" impact would'nt touch.

So long as your not trying to go 90* with it, it should hold up alot longer than the 10 bolts your driving LOL!!
