Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

I own all dewalt tools,so of course I have the nail gun too. It works great for a few nail job. Don't think I've used it more than a dozen times in the last year. What I normally grab for a small job is my 1/2hp 1 gallon senco compressor.....love that thing. Lightweight, compact and micro pins shoot great with it. Thats why I bought that over the paslode. Not knocking paslodes at all, but I felt my money was better spent on the senco.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

There are times I want to shoot only a coil of roofing nails, There are times I only want to shoot a partial coil of siding nails, There are times less than a clip or two of framing nails. three clips of angled trim nails or straight brads. I cant see buying a new gun for every task. For me Nitrogen or Co2 makes sense. I just haven't got around to deciding weather to get 20 oz Co2 or just a divers or paint ball air tank

http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...LAID=109385398

I understand the co2 might play havoc with the seals in some guns

Got a Dewalt 16g here - never any issues. Paslodes are nice but they are fussy sometimes and the co2 is consumables - thats why I went with Dewalt. It was cheaper to buy an extra battery than it is for all the gas you would use. Some clients actually complain of the gassy smell they put off. Go figure...

You read my mind.

My Paslode pissed me off today. I needed to shoot 4 nails. Nothing. Change the gas. Nothing. Nails...check. That little f-n green light blinking like everything is OK....check.

I almost threw it in my dump trailer.

It acts up when it's cold, but it wasn't cold.

Maybe I should clean. I never have.

I haven't used my Paslode in forever, its always needing cleaning or charging or refilling and I usually say f it and get the compressor or do it by hand. I'm not sold on the DeWalt, but the new Ridgid 18v gun looks promising.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

I have done at least 5 large Azek trim packages with my Paslode Impulse angled trim nailer. In the area of 50,000 shots fired their may have been 50 times that it didn't fire, aside from the fuel cell running out during use. To me, that is way less agravating than a hose tangled around something 25 or 30 feet in the air. I carry the Impulse gun on a belt clip from one end of the house to the other and from top to bottom. The gun gets cleaned about every 15,000 shots and I'm about 5,000 overdue, no problems.
I'm sure with that volume of use, the DeWalt will have its share of issues with dead batteries and such. Just curious, what is the cycle rate of the DeWalt? The Impulse will cycle as quickly as I can place the nosepiece for the next shot.

The same.

Those looking for a reason to hate the Dewalt simply won't find one.

There is a reason Dewalt owns this tool niche.

I really have no idea why anybody would screw around with a Paslode when these Dewalt guns are available. I can only imagine it's because they don't have access to one to see how ridiculously clear the choice is between them.

Dewalt finaly came out with a cordless brad nailer. I bought 2, they are absolutely awesome.

Now just come out with a 18vt framing gun and I'm all set.

I dont know anyone that likes the dejunks. God I hate yellow tools.

Greg, still cant remember the last time I cleaned any of my 3 passlode's.
Mine just work, when they have fits, its always the gas or the battery.
Fresh gas seems to keep mine plugging away.

The Dewalts I've used can actually be bump fired. I never tried to compare cycle rates, but the Dewalt may be able to work faster. My nailing is all careful placement in trim, so this wasn't a factor to me.

I have a large array of DeWalt tools and I like them all, I owned my Impulse guns before anything else was on the market that could even be seriously considered a cordless nailer. I still run 12 V DeWalt tools because for my useage, nothing bigger is necessary. I'm not a hater, just looking for answers.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

I picked up a framer and finish off an ebay seller who is an 'outlet' for refurbished Paslode nailers and paid something like $140 w/ shipping for the angled gun. Both guns have given me no problems except when the fuel cell begins to get low.

I was thinking about this too. But I wonder if it would be possible. I have the 18, 16 and framing paslodes and you can feel the jump in power with each size. I guess it's the same with air guns too. I don't know if you could get that kind of power from the flywheel design that the battery powered guns use.

I think you're going a little too far in praising the Dewalts and slamming the Paslodes. I can understand you preferring Dewalt, but they each have their pros and cons.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

So far the only pro I've heard for a paslode is being a little lighter.

The con of unreliablility is unsurmountable for me. When a tool goes down it costs me money. It costs me money to have to have 2 of them incase one goes down.

As for a framer? It will come. Just a few years ago a cordless nailer was impossible unless you ran it off a fuel cell and the fuel cell model comes with a built in handicap which is unreliability. Now we have bullet proof reliable cordless finish guns available by Dewalt. It might take a jump in battery tech which is coming anyways thanks to the jump in production of electric demand in automobiles which will trickle down into tools.

I might not see one in my career's lifetime but then again I might.

By the way don't you have to shoot paslode nails in paslode guns? I thought I heard that once? If that's true that's another head shaker as why anybody would buy one.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

I once had the dewalt for less than a year. Used it a few times before all the batteries failed over the first winter and had to be replaced, after getting new batteries the piece that pulls the firing plunger up broke inside the gun and had to be repaired, got the gun back and after a couple weeks the plunger would go in but not come out when fired, gave it to my neighbor now it's his problem. So far he has not fixed it because of the $75 in parts alone for repairs. I spent more on batteries and repairs than what I gave for the entire suitcase full of dewalt tools after just two years. I will never own another dewalt tool for any reason after this experiance.

I'll be interested to see this new Makita 3/8" Crown stapler. Shoots a 3/8" staple up to 7/8" long and only weighs 5 pounds with the battery.

I also wonder how far they will go with the nail guns. It would be good to have some more competition out there for this battery powered stuff.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

Mike, you got a sponsorship from the big yellow tool maker?

The only thing that any cordless dewalt tool is good for is throwing.

Seriously, their batteries are crap.

I think the only thing worse than the Dewalt is the Senco one. Its got to let the gerbil wind up before it shoots.

Re: I'm Sick Of Getting Out My Compressor!!!!

I disagree with that whole heartedly. My opinions aren't based on being a stock holder they are based on the Millions of dollars in revenue produced with tools over the years.

At last count we own about 20 18vt batteries. They all have done exactly as they were advertised, good for the number of charges advertised and then they need to be rebuilt. I just sent 4 off to be rebuilt last week. We ask for and get nothing more out of them, nothing less. Batteries don't last forever, they are designed for 2-3 years of use. Your results will be more or less than that number based on factors such as frequency of use and abuse.

The majority of battery problems I've witnessed on any tools be it Dewalt or anybody elses come from owner/operator mis use or mis understanding. Leaving batteries to freeze, leaving them on a dash board to cook, I've seen people tape the triggers of drills to run a battery dead, seen it all.

I don't fasley blame short-comings on a tool manufacturer if it's not the case.

We own a whole lot more tools then Dewalts, we own tools from every major manufacturer. We own tools from every major manufacturer because we aren't tied to brand loyalty and instead look to the economics of ownershp combined with the tools that are the best in each category.

Again, when faced with a decision to purchase a finish nailer and you don't want it plugged into an air hose, I have no idea why anybody would chose anything but the Dewalts. They can't be beat.

We bought 2 of these a month ago

They are part of their new m-12 line and are sold usually as one of 5 tools bought together.

We only bought this single tool out of the 5 because the rest of them don't do anything we can't do better already with something else.

That's how we choose tools based on what they will do from us. We pick and choose from different brands what is best.

After 30 days it broke.

Unlike some of you who would swear off - I'll NEVER BUY ANOTHER MILWUAKEE F&*KING TOOL AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big deal.

Tools break. We dropped it off for repair and it's back earning money again.

That's what tools are for. They make you money.

Hence the word -- TOOL.
