Hitachi NR90GR & Paslode Fuel Cells?

From time to time, we have to build out racks and closets for network installs. I picked up the Hitachi HR90GR (Gas powered frame nailer like a paslode) from Amazon on a deep discount and while I love the gun, I can not seem to find the Hitachi Fuel Cells anywhere local.

Our local lumber yard said their Paslode rep told me that their RED fuel cells will work in the Hitachi (they sell the same gun), but wanted to know if anyone has tried this?

call hitachi and ask them. they should be able to tell you where you can order their fuel cells at a minimum.

I have the same gun and you can use any cells that are suitable for the paslode IM350, the same goes for nails. Hitachi have basically produced a "parallel" gun that will use all the same consumables.
I love mine too, LOL

Just got home, been using my gun today and thought I would say that I find some cheaper gas can make the gun a pain in the ass to use, stick to decent gas and it will fire much more consistently.

Re: Hitachi NR90GR & Paslode Fuel Cells?

Hello all,

I have a question for any about the paslode or Hitachi framing nailers. I have been told they need to be oiled regularly and also need regular use.

I am a clinically diagnosed "tool whore" and i want one. I purchased the Dewalt cordless finish nailer which i would guess gets about 8k hits a year. I chose it over the paslode because of the above fears of regular maintainance and need for constant use. In the Dewalt manual it says the gun is rated for 110k hits per year. Thats a lot of nails for what I do.

So the long and short of it is, how much regular maintainance and use is needed if I were to purchase one of these. I would suspect I would use the gun for maybe 3-4k hits a year, maybe more if I decided to get rid of the compressor and corded guns.

I got my Hitachi because I was getting elbow problems using the hammer, at least thats what I told the wife, but seriously I'm not a heavy user, I reckon i've shot less than 2000 nails in a year and it still works fine even if its been put away for a month or so. More of an issue is the gas, some makes can have a real detrimental effect on performance and that can be SO frustrating, when it wont fire ,man I could throw it out of the window.
When I first got it I didnt realise how the gas made such a difference and I must have stripped it down and cleaned it twice before I realised it was the gas. When its on song its the best tool.

The Hitachi is an exact replica of the older IM 90 Framing although the design is new the internal workings are not as reliable as the latest Paslode Machine. Maintenance is Must do for both guns, expecially if fireing 1000+ nails a day. You can but the lubricant from most places. (ccl is a good one).
The cleaner is actually "Brake Cleaner". Mixing the Gas between Hitachi and Paslode if fine although try not to tell the retailer, as the fussy ones can void the warranty.

O yeah a tip. Try and keep the Gas at a warm temperature. Especially as winter is coming. Try Heating it slightley on the dashboard while you drive to the job. Sounds a little daft but makes a differance.

I would personally avoid the Hitachi, Its a fine tool yes. Though the paslode has been tried and tested for many years, developed to a workhorse.
As for 3-4k hits a year thats way below its designed usage. So maintenance you can keep to a minimal. Just look after the external workings.
one thing to remember the gas cells have an expiray date (on the neck or base) so check before you start a new job.....

no no no, I made that mistake once and the o-ring swelled up like crazy. and i could not re-assemble the gun till i replaced the O ring.
Unless they changed the o ring in the newer guns. mine is one of the old black paslode guns w/o the electronic ignition. It has since stopped working and sits in the garage in its silver plastic case under a bench. I use a paslode air stick nailer now.
