Hitachi Cordless With A Cord???

I was killing some time at the pawn shop Friday and I saw a Hitachi cordless tool set with a saw, sawzall and light. The kit had a charger, two batteries and a fake battery that was corded. The fake battery went in the tool like any other battery would but it had a cord coming from the bottom to plug it in the wall also. I have searched online but I cant find anything about it. Has anyone here seen this before. The kit was only $160 and looked pretty new, I may pick it up Monday.

Thanks,
Curt

Never have I seen this setup but I have heard of it. Sounds like a winner.

Remember that the Pawn Broker has less than $75.00 in the set. Time to exercise those negotiating skills!! Beat them up!

I only use Hitachi tools. Pretty much own every cordless model they have including the set you are talking about. But have never seen the battery with a cord, not even on the Hitachi site. But would really like to know how it works cuz it sounds like a good idea.

i have seen it and almost bought it. its about 4 years old atleast. its probably not worth it b/c the batts are probably on their way out - that said i still have a hitachi that is about 8 years old and the batts are fine so i guess it could be worth it.

I was also considering buying it because my corded Hitachi sawzaw is on its way out.

The owner of the pawn shop is my neighbor and I would bet he has less than $30 bucks into it considering his low list price.

I am sure he will cut me a good deal on it.

When ever pawn shop shopping, keep in mind that they generally pay 25% or less for an items worth. I rarely buy tools from pawn shops but regularly buy my guitars from them. I never pay the cost they have posted on the tag which is sometimes higher than what I could get it new for.

I see items like bostich palm nailers for over $100 in pawn shops all the time. I guess there are dummies that assume they are getting a great deal just because they are in a pawn shop.

Re: Hitachi Cordless With A Cord???

I really wish more companies would make a AC to cordless converter. It really is a marketing ploy because it takes less parts to make an AC adapter than a basic battery charger. But if they did make it, their sales would drop dramatically for corded tools. I know I would sell all my corded and 18v stuff and buy 28-36v everything with an AC adapter. One set of power tools for everything.

X2

I shy away away from cordless because of the issues with batteries and the fact they die in cold weather. If there was a handy AC converter I would change everything except my biggest tools to cordless. It's the best of both worlds IMO.
